Cannot access internet on strong wifi

I've tried to find an answer using suggestions these discussions, but nothing seems to work.

the wifi signal is strong

in network preferences I have green status for all elements except ISP which is amber, internet which is red, and server which is red.

ive run the diagnostics, but I get stuck in the loop when it ask to reset any devices (router, amplifier). I reset them, and then im asked if there any devices between the computer and the incoming service.

IVe added new DNS

IVe tried to renew the DHCP lease

what else can i try??

It's an iMac.

I haven't yet tried a direct ethernet link - I'll do that later this week, when I have the chance to take the machine downstairs to the router.

I'm running out of ideas . . . .

I Dont use airport - i have a swisscom DSL router and a repeater.

the signal is strong, but the service is slow to my daughters MacBookAir, and non-existant to my iMac - which is strange because a week ago it was fine!!

ive run out of ideas now ....

After much discussion I persuaded my provider to try a replacement router. This arrived today, it's installed and all is working perfectly (so far).
