Health and Activity data not syncing

I've had my Apple Watch for about 24 hours and cannot get the Activity and Health data from my Apple Watch to sync with my iphone

The activity app just says "... To start using the app on your iPhone, first set up activity on your Apple Watch", which I have done... its not showing up as a source in the Health app on the iPhone... and whenever I enter data (birthday, gender, height and weight) in the Apple Watch App on my iPhone it doesn't save, it just goes back to "Not Set" whenever I exit the screen and come back.

I've tried soft resets and hard rests (of both devices), trying to change Progress... I don't really know what else to do

Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas??

Hey -

Thanks for the response.

- Yes I paired the Watch with my iPhone, and bluetooth is on. They are right next to each other... other functionality is working (i.e. notifications)

- Yes the Apple Watch is setup using my Apple ID, its the same one on both devices

- I am the only one using the Apple ID. It's used in a lot of places though (iPad, iPhone, MBA, Watch and a PC)

I was having a problem with, what I think was my Apple ID... I couldn't update apps on my iPhone.. I would go in to the update area of the app store, click update and the little wheel that comes up, would just spin... if I reset my phone it would work for a bit and eventually go back to just the wheel spinning. What I think the problem was, was I had an expired credit card in my Apple ID. I updated that and I haven't had the problem since. I didn't get any error message on the phone so I'm not 100% sure if thats what the problem was, but it seems to have solved it. Not sure if thats relevant.

Hi Matt

Try unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch and iPhone.

To get started with unpairing, on your iPhone open the Apple Watch app > My Watch > Apple Watch > tap on Unpair Apple Watch.

Your Apple Watch app on your iPhone takes backups of your watch automatically, including a fresh backup when unpairing via the app. When setting it up again after unpairing, choose to restore your watch from backup when offered the option (by the iPhone Apple Watch app). Most data and settings will be restored, with only a few exclusions: calibration data (from Workout and Activity apps), synced playlists, cards used for Apple Pay on your watch, watch passcode.

If that does not work: repeat the same process, but choose set up as a new watch instead of restoring from backup.

Hi Jonathan -

Thanks for replying. I tried both and options and neither worked. Activity app on the iPhone still says, set up on the Apple Watch, even though its set up again. Health data info (gender, age, etc) is still not stay in the Apple Watch App on iOS and it's still not showing as a source in the health app.

This is quite frustrating as everything else is working!

Hi Matt

Also try these steps:

- On your iPhone: in the Contacts app, check that your own contact card contains your own name, Apple ID email address and phone number - and also that it doesn't contain anyone else's Apple ID email address or iPhone phone number.

- On your iPhone: go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > scroll to the Contacts section > check that My Info is using your contact card.

- On your iPhone: go to Settings > General > Siri > My Info - check that your own contact card is correctly selected here.

- On your Apple Watch: ask Siri "what is my name?"

Make any corrections as required.

On your iPhone: in the Apple Watch app, go to My Watch > Reset > Reset Sync Data (nothing will seem to happen, but the process will run in the background - allow a minute or so).

Sign out of iCloud on your iPhone: Settings > iCloud > sign out (at the bottom), then sign back in.

It may then also help to again restart both your iPhone and your watch. (To restart Apple Watch: Press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider; Drag the slider to turn off completely; Afterwards, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo).

So I eventually solved this, not in an ideal way, but it works.

I restored the iPhone (to iOS 8.4.1) and re-paired the Apple Watch and it works now. I'm not really sure what the problem was. Unfortunately, I lost my apps and what not, I had a back up, but I didn't want to restore from backup because I was worried the problem would come back.

Anyway, I am up and running and after about an hour of work got my phone looking close to what it was before.

Thanks all for the help!!

I have the same issue. I can type in my birthdate, height, weight, and sex, but the fields do not save into the Health setting on the Watch's iOS app. Activity is tracked on the watch, but not synced to the phone, at all. I've tried unpairing and repairing the Watch, signing in and out of iCloud, followed Jonathan's advice in checking the contact card settings, all to no avail. My activity is trapped on the watch, it seems. Gotta be some way to fix this without reverting to iOS 8…

Hey Jonathan UK,

Ive been having the same issues as the original poster since i had my handset swapped out due to a back light fault.

After restoring the new handset from my icloud backup i then wiped and re-paired my watch, but im having the same issues.

I have followed all your step detailed in this thread and im still having the same screen when opening the activity app on my 6s, detailing that i need to set it up on my watch first but ive already done this. Also the health app isnt seeing it as a device either and i cant pair Lifesun or sleep cycle to the health app.

i have a iPhone 6s running iOS9.0.2 and a apple watch running watch version 2 (13S344)

Any help would be greatly apreciated,

Hi Dave

A reset and restore of both devices may resolve your issue:

Unpair your watch from your iPhone using the Apple Watch app (this also refreshes the watch backup):

- Apple Watch app > My Watch > General > Apple Watch > Unpair Apple Watch.

Backup your iPhone:

- via iCloud (encrypted as standard) or

- via iTunes on a computer - IMPORTANT: choose to "Encrypt iPhone backup", so that the backup includes Health data along with saved passwords, Wi-Fi settings and website history.

Erase all content and settings on your iPhone:

- On your iPhone: Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

Restore iPhone from backup:

- Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup - Apple Support

Pair and set up your watch:

- Choose to restore the watch from backup (Restore from Backup) when offered the option during set up.

- This will restore most of your data and settings, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).

- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Why would you have to go through all this trouble of restoring everything, it takes hours. I have the same problem - health data stopped syncing.

After I unpaired the watch and restored with iPhone and watch from backup. This is Microsoft way of solving problems - restart, reinstall the OS, etc.

If nobody has the idea what is going on then let's wait for a better resolution.

BTW: I saw the watch OS 2 is now available for download so will try to upgrade.
