How to update iPhoto from 9.4.3 to 9.5.1

Hi,

I got iPhoto from iLife 11 in 2012 I think, since then I update my mac to Yosemite, then found an update on mac support for iPhoto to 9.4.3.

Since I did not buy iPhoto from the AppStore, how can I upgrade it to 9.5.1 ??

The AppStore don't show iPhoto anymore, and even if it tell me that I need to upgrade it, AppStore keep telling me that iPhoto is not available in my country (Canada)

Can somebody help me... I upgrade to Yosemite to be able to order a book that I made with iPhoto because it didn't work with 9.2.3 :-(

Any help all be appreciate.

Thanks in advance

Yves

Here is a post from fellow Support Community member Barney-15E that may work for you (Niel's point about not purchasing it directly from the App Store may prevent you from going this route).

However, since you already have upgraded to Yosemite, you might want to at least try out the Photos app. Doing so will not prevent you from going the update/re-install iPhoto route, but it will allow you to make your own decision about whether or not you are OK with Photos as it is now.

I am still running iPhoto/Aperture, but I also use Photos. There is nothing to prevent you from using all three if you wish. You just have to make sure you have your settings for importing new photos set up for the app where you want them to go. But I have Photo Stream and Photo Sharing set up in both iPhoto and Photo and I can use them interchangeably for those functions.

Here is the post for how to upgrade, but again, it may not work for you since you did not purchase the original package via the App Store:

Thanks for the information, but since I don't see iPhoto in the AppStore...

I tried photos after my first upgrade to Yosemite, but the book I made was not like the one in iPhoto, the map feature is not the same, and it was all screw up.

Photos was very slow.... I have family photo since 2005 !

I will try to contact Apple Support...

Thanks

Since you've upgraded to Yosemite you can only upgrade to 9.6.1 from the App Store. It's the same as 9.5.1 but is compatible with Yosemite. iPhoto was not deleted from your hard drive, only removed from the Dock. If you have iPhoto 9.6.1 you can still use your iPhoto library.

If you don't have that version but some earlier version of 9.x installed try following Terence Devlin's instructions in this post to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash.

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Give the above a try and see if you can't upgrade to 9.6.1. Be sure to follow the text in red.

Hi,

Thanks all for your help, for now I been able to run iPhoto 9.4.3 in Yosemite with a trick I found on the forum :

"I found you can still run iPhoto by opening the package contents with Control-click on the App, then click on Show Package Contents, Contents, MacOS, iPhoto. But I don't know how stable this is. It seems to run just fine. But I'd like the 9.6.1 update just to be sure it's not going to trash my photos."

That did the trick ! I've been able to order my book without any problem, all my photos and projects are there and I didn't encounter any problem.

Case close !

I forgot about that "trick/hack". Thanks for the feedback. Be sure to keep a very current backup of your library if you continue to use 9.4.3 in that mode.
