iCloud needs to repair to work with Outlook 2016

I've recently installed Office 2016 and iCloud 4.1. When I open iCloud on the Windows System Tray, it comes up with an error that states.

User uploaded file

When I click 'Open Programs and Features' and click iCloud and 'Repair', it runs through the process and then I'm prompted to restart my PC. After I complete this, I log back into iCloud and the window to Repair shows up again.

I've uninstalled iCloud and Outlook 2016 and re-installed, but that doesn't work.

I have iCloud 4.2 and Outlook 2016 installed on another PC and it works fine.

Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sent this via feedback:- Very disappointed that with the advent of v 5.0 , contacts & calendars no longer sync with the latest Outlook 2016. Many users chose this method because they get the best of both worlds, 2 good products from opposite camps talking to each other. Not sure what has happened to bring this about, but PLEASE let the 1000's of users out there know of your and/or MS's intention to fix or not, and if so possibly indicate some sort of timeframe. The silence on this issue is deafening and not winning Apple or MS any kudus.

So my desktop (PC) with Windows10 and now MS Office 2016 (365)
has Outlook 2016 and iCloud v5.0 works Great on my Desktop, However (you know
there is always a Butt) On updating my wife’s laptop, she has Windows10 to MS
Office 365 (2016) Outlook 2016, iCloud v5.0 it is not working on Outlook 2016.
We also share Calendars and I see everything put on the iCloud calendar from my
Outlook 2016.

I have looked High and Low on my desktop with Outlook
add-ins to the “Windows Registry” to see why it works on my desktop and not my
wife’s laptop and I just can’t find anything. I don’t know if it is Microsoft
or Apple… Like everyone else I hope there will be a fix soon very soon (for my
wife is going to kill me LOL)

Sounds like SOME progress is being made. I got tired of waiting. While I am still happy with my iTunes for music server and organization, and its integration with Apple TV for local content viewing, I dropped iPhone and am now Windows Phone/One Drive/Outllook.com which works extremely well with my PC. Looking back over the years that I tried to maintain an integration with Windows/Apple, I wish I had back all those hours I spent trying to make features that once worked work again after one of the entities released an update. Apple in particular was most frustrating with its corporate policy of never admitting any errors or mistakes in packages, leaving it to users to figure out what might be wrong. No more!

Hi Smash Broski,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

Currently Outlook 2016 is not compatible with iCloud for Windows. In the meantime, if you are using Outlook 2016, you can access iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars on iCloud.com. Support for Outlook 2016 will be available in a soon to be released update.

iCloud for Windows currently supports Outlook 2007 through Outlook 2013. Support for Outlook 2016 will be available in an updated release soon. If you use Outlook 2016, you can access iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendars on iCloud.com.

OK, thanks for this official statement I guess. I note the date of the OP's question was September 8, 2015 and the first accurate official response from Apple was Nov 20, 2015. This is what has always driven me crazy about Apple "support," and was a significant reason why I left the Apple ecosystem in favor of Windows Phone, which was 1/3 the cost of a new iPhone, has all the same features (the ones I need), and integrates without a problem with my desktop.

It seems as of Nov 24, it is still not ready yet.

It is simply inconceivable and unforgivable that iCloud still isn't compatible with Office 2016 and cannot be syncronized. The usual excuse that the problem is caused by Microsoft, and of course from Microsoft that it's an Apple problem, is an outrageous insult to the intelligence of Microsoft and Apple customers.

If anyone actually reads this, I would appreciate a reply, preferably with a solution to this problem, shared by countless thousands!

I have provided you with the only answer there is right now. If you are expecting an answer from Apple, you will not get one here. They do not participate here, this is a user to user support forum. They have community specialists that provide minimal information, and that has been provided to you. Both companies have issues when it comes to the release of new software, especially software that operates on both platforms, and within both platforms.

There's a new update to iCloud and includes support for Outlook 2016. In case anyone hasn't downloaded it yet.

iCloud for Windows v5.1

This update includes support for Outlook 2016. View your iCloud mail, contacts, calendars and tasks right from Microsoft Outlook. This update also includes support for iCloud Photo Library and two-factor authentication for Apple ID.

iCloud for Windows v5.1 requires:

  • Microsoft Windows 7 or later
  • Outlook 2007 or later or iCloud.com (for Mail, Contacts, Calendars).
  • Internet Explorer 10 or later, Firefox 22 or later, or Google Chrome 28 or later (for Bookmarks)

See iCloud system requirements for additional detail.
