So why did iPhone 4S which first had iOS 5 get Panorama which was a feature in iOS 6 which came out with iPhone 5 when Panorama is hardware?

The reason why older models than iPhone 4S didn't get Panorama is either because their processor wouldn't handle it or because Apple wanted consumers with an iPhone out of contract would update their phone. I rather think it is the second reason. But I think Apple will make Live Photo available with iPhone 6 and maybe just maybe also with iPhone 5S because they use to make new software available on the newest of the older models.

Slomo is like I said dependent of hardware. You can't do super slomo with a Canon 60D for example. But if the camera would have the firmware får taking a picture and at the same time make a litte video and compress it in the inage file it would be able to do it.

The iOS 9 that is out for iPhone 6 is just a beta version and Apple didn't want to reveal the technology before the event. I think when they release the full version on September 16th iPhone 6 will have Live Photo.

You do know that people have been posting incorrect "beliefs" like that since the iPhone 3G was released?

If Live Photo was a software feature in iOS 9 why wouldn't Apple have featured it at the WWDC? Do you really thing millions of people want the new phone just for Live Photo? Is it really that big of a selling point?

Maybe it was meant to be a surprise for us. When it comes to Apple, you never know what will pop up when. There's absolutely nothing wrong in iPhone 6 users asking for live photos. iPhone 6 isnt so old that it shouldn't be loved at all! We don't want any hardware upgrade. But I really don't think providing us the live photos should be a problem as long as they want to keep it only for iphone 6s. It is in no way related to the new hardware. It's just a code which needs to be re written. I sure hope Apple does that. A lot of people are expecting it.

A surprise? When?

I have no problem with Phone users asking for new features. People who owned the original iPhone asked for 3G speeds. People with the iPhone 4 ask to be able to upgrade to iOS 8. Doesn't mean you will get it. And Apple added a number of new features to iOS 9 that run on the iPhone 6 series. Why would they write software in iOS 9 to do Live Photos and then introduce it in the 6s series only? Again, how many extra sales will that really get them?

During the Live Event they did a summary of the new features of the 6s/6s Plus and had a slide in the background listing them. Faster processor, much faster GPU and new camera with 12MP and Live Photos. Why would they list that there if it wasn't hardware? One of the few changes with the 6s is the new camera. Apple has added new cameras in the past that had new features that never appeared on older models but did appear on other manufacturers new phones.

Perhaps some enterprising developer will discover a way to combine the manual process of making an animated GIF on the phone for other models. I agree that Live Photo is "software" but I doubt Apple had anything to do with it, it is embedded firmware in the camera. Push the button and it calls the API in the camera and takes the picture holding the camera open longer and using improved autofocus and stability in the new camera. Anyone want to bet on what HTC, LG, Samsung will call it? Animated Photo? Moving Photo? Harry Potter Photo?

Everything agreed to! But the very fact that iphone 6 and other models will be able to play the live photos will give us some hope that Apple might include that one little thing and I don't think it is the hardware at all! None the less, we have to wait and find out! 2 more days to go! 6s has many more brilliant features! Like the 3D touch, which is QUITE fascinating! Siri is always listening, thanks to the integrated m9 chip which has direct access to the mic! Live photos isn't really much of an upgrade which I think apple shouldn't give the 6 series! And even if they did give, it won't hamper the sales at all! People buy iPhones because they are in love with it! I don't think they would mind if a tad bit of tech is shared with 6s's immediate predecessor ,i.e,. the 6!

Most of the new features in phone cameras in the past few years have been in the camera firmware and not in the software. There is a highly competitive market in Korea over smartphone cameras and trying to sell them to smartphone manufacturers. To get ahead you have to be the first one to come up with a new feature. To take Live Photos would require camera improvements beyond what the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have, including stability and faster and more accurate autofocus and lighting control. Features that were ... featured in the Event. Also the speed required to do this would be much, much faster if it ran at the camera rather that relying on the iPhone calling on iOS 9 software when pushing the button then interpreting that to the camera. And even if that were so the much faster A9 would be much better at that then the A8 on the iPhone 6.

We will know when the phone is released and someone tears it down and identifies who made the camera. And when LG or someone also has it. If you do a little googling you will discover it is not in the beta of iOS 9.1. What version of iOS 9 would they wait to surprise everyone?

You can uncross your fingers.

I think if you seriously want Live Photos that badly you should upgrade to the 6s and along with that feature you will get a much superior camera. If you use your iPhone a lot to take photos that alone would be worth it. Just remember these will be significantly larger photos so but a phone with as much storage as possible.

Having an Apple Watch I can till you that 3D Touch becomes very handy and the feature on the Phone is twice as good as on the Watch. Peek and Pop could save a lot of time when you are short on time. And if you play any games they are going to look much better, and be much faster, on the 6s.

Will Live Photos be available on iPhone 6 or iOS9 also?
