i am upgrading only because I could get a decent price from my 6 plus and because I'm a sucker for new phones. These features and kind of gimmicky but still nice to have. It is not a giant leap as it was between 5s and 6. If you can't afford 6s and 7, you should skip a generation you won't miss a thing and your 7 will feels that much better to you.

Faster processing, 3D Touch and faster GPU gives programmers more avenues for better and faster software. I don't find that gimmicky and Force Touch is not gimmicky on the Watch. I think some people will be attracted to Live Photo but I'm not sure about the "crowd". And after showing their friends the feature a few times I think the novelty will quickly wear off with the exception of pictures of babies and cats.

Honestly for me and many people I know, the entire camera is very, very low on the priority list of features. Most of the people I know with iPhones have one as their only telephone. So the phone itself, email and messaging, apps for documents and such - the communication and data handling aspects - are by far the most important features. A camera is a nice and occasionally fun thing to have, but it's just not that important to a lot of people.

If it is a big feature for you that's fine. I'm just saying there are hundreds of millions of iPhone users in the world, and I bet every one of the will have at least a slightly different opinion of what matters, to them, in a smart phone.

I was having a bit of a think about why Live Photo is not supported in the 6 or below.. Hardware issues such as camera and 3D touch is not correct. As it has been said you can view the photos on an older phone so not 3D touch and the camera wouldn't matter at all ever it would be all software. So the thought I had was that with the 6s and 6s plus there is 2GB Of RAM rather than 1GB in most previous models. The way I would assume Live Photo works is that the camera is recording constantly uncompressed, maybe? god knows how this will work, into RAM when the app is open and then when you hit the shutter it then takes the 1.5 seconds before from RAM and then 1.5 after is also recorded and then compressed and you get your Live Photo. The uncompressed stuff would probably be pretty big and would probably be fairly big even at 8mp.. I am in no way a photography person.. But I do computers.. And that is literally the only logical explanation I can come up with as to why the 6 wouldn't support Live Photos. Also I am running 9.1 beta and it doesn't feature, shout out to that one dude that is desperate for it though.

You guys crack me up. Live Photo is a new feature that uses the CAMERA to take a Live Photo but you dismiss that the camera has anything to do with it out of hand. Why. What brilliance led you to this conclusion? Even with features like slo-mo that are well known to be camera based, and others, the camera is still dismissed? Why? And do you really think ONE Live Photo is going to exceed the available RAM? But why use RAM at all to store it, why wouldn't you use the flash memory on the phone (you would).

And you may be a "computer" person (I'm doubtful) but you obviously are not a person that can be trusted with agreements you make with others. If you are in the Beta program you promised to adhere to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that you would not reveal that you were using the test software or anything about the software. You've now done both. Perhaps the moderators here will be kind enough to relay this information to the Beta employees and they will be sure to reject you in the future.

No, I don't own the truth. And I have said previously that when a tear down is done we will learn more. I just go by logic and knowledge of hardware and history of electronics. I also have experience with software. I don't abide unsupported statements and information or conspiracy theories based on nothing.

This is a technical support community and our hosts here are only allowing this thread to exist because it is a new phone and have given some latitude. I've been here for awhile and done just fine.

LOL, you'll pardon me if I don't take advice from someone who thinks GM stands for "Grand Master".

The fact is that slow motion requires hardware because it requires a faster framerate that the shutter actually has to have the capability to keep up with. However, opening a shutter 1.5 seconds before and recording video, then taking a photo, then opening a shutter for 1.5 seconds after and then putting all that together into one file is well within the abilities of the existing hardware and is strictly a software based capability that will likely be added at a later date. Obviously they can't do it now or it would take some shine off the S'.

P.S. GM stands for "Golden Master" or "Gold Master"

Will Live Photos be available on iPhone 6 or iOS9 also?
