With the way the stylus worked on the iPads prior to the iPad Pro, I must agree with you.
Having watch the presentation of the iPad Pro and saw how the stylus works on it, I must disagree with you. I think plenty of people that spring for the iPad Pro will also get the Apple Pencil. It works at a totally different level to any stylus before it. It gives far more functionality for creative uses.
