Rear camera stopped working after upgrade to iOS 9

updated to iOS 9 on my iPhone 5. once completed the rear (main) camera shows only a black screen. the front facing camera seems to work fine. other apps don't seem to be able to use the rear camera. There is also a warning symbol when tapped declares the flash cannot be used because the iPhone is too hot. My phone seems to be at room temperature. Also the flashlight does not work. I noticed the warning symbol doesn't appear (after a phone restart) until I switch to the front camera and back to the rear camera

This same issue seems to have appeared in iOS 8.4 updates from searching the forums here.

I have restored my phone and turned it off and on, but nothing has worked.

anyone?

thanks for any help.

I did the complete device wipe from General>Reset>Erase all content & Settings , I then started the phone up as a brand new iPhone and now everything is working again (phone, App Store (which was also missing) etc.)

I haven't done a recovery from backup as of yet. Just trying to reload my apps and photos manually. All seems to be fully functional at this point. Not an enjoyable process, but I'm pleased to have the phone functioning the way it should again.

Correction to my previous post: I did the complete device wipe from General>Reset>Erase all content & Settings , I then started the phone up as a brand new iPhone and now everything is working again (CAMERA, App Store (which was also missing) etc.)

At least we now know 100% that this is not a "hardware" issue (as previously reported from the Genius Bar).

Same thing happened here today for my iPhone 5s after updated to iOS 9.0.1 upon the release. But there was no issue with the camera and flashlight right after the update (same to the phone after update to iOS 9). It just happen all in a sudden this morning. But my problem is with the both camera and the flashlight. Even I access the camera in another apps like Facebook it's still showing only the black screen for rear and front camera, and flashlight also won't work.

I tried resetting the phone as a new iPhone but it didn't work for my phone. Will try to recover with iTunes and hard reset my phone. The solution by turning on/off low power mode doesn's make any change for me.

This exact thing has happened to my daughters iphone 5. I spent over an hour on the phone tonight only to be told it must be s hardware problem and that it'll cost a maximum of £206 for a repair or replacement. They seemed a bit stumpted hence the 60+ minute phone call. I'm not convinced that it is just a coincidence. I referred them to this community pointing out that I'm not the only one. Can a flashy update cause a processor to just quit functioning properly? I Wish I was a bit more technically minded.

i Forgot to add that I tried the reset, safe mode, low power mode....I had a go at downgrading to 8.4 but Apple wouldn't allow it.

I had this exact problem and was an early poster on this thread- tried resetting all settings, restoring, setting up as new, etc. Nothing worked. Apple support ran diagnostics on the phone and said it was a hardware problem and out of warranty so any repairs were on me.

Then after messing around with the low power mode it came back and started working again. I made sure the camera app was not running, toggled the low power on and off, and rebooted the phone. It's important to note that this has not worked for everyone. You'll see in this thread a few people tried without success. For whatever reason, it fixed my phone though.

1. Flash is not at all working in Day as well as Night vision. If I use flash light as Torch or Notifications, flash is working.

2. Rear Camera doesn't capture photo in Dim light (tubelight or bulb light) and Dark. If I hold the Photo Capture key, it takes photos in bulk (50-60 photos). But all means, flash is not working.

Issue is the same but even after updating iOS 9.0.2

Clearly something going on here, APPLE HELP, the same thing happened to me.

My phone was working perfectly and i upgraded to IOS9 now i get a black screen when trying to use the front Camera. If I switch to the front Camera, it works fine. then i switch back and get a warning in top left corner, when pushed it tell me phone is too hot to be used.

This is not a hardware problem, why is it taking so long for Apple to do anything? where is the support?

the following did not help:

1. reboot the phone

2. playing with power saver options + rebooting the phone

if anyone has any fixes, please share!

HI

its interesting to learn that this has happened to a phone that it's new or recently reconditioned. Obviously it ***** for you but i would love to know the outcome of what they say and do for you. I was told it was hardware issue because the phone was old and worn out. This thread has over 5000 views to date. others must be having the same problem. I wish there was a way to find out.

Watch and wait I guess.
