Rear camera stopped working after upgrade to iOS 9

updated to iOS 9 on my iPhone 5. once completed the rear (main) camera shows only a black screen. the front facing camera seems to work fine. other apps don't seem to be able to use the rear camera. There is also a warning symbol when tapped declares the flash cannot be used because the iPhone is too hot. My phone seems to be at room temperature. Also the flashlight does not work. I noticed the warning symbol doesn't appear (after a phone restart) until I switch to the front camera and back to the rear camera

This same issue seems to have appeared in iOS 8.4 updates from searching the forums here.

I have restored my phone and turned it off and on, but nothing has worked.

anyone?

thanks for any help.

I am having the same problem with my 5S after updating to iOS9. I updated to 9.0.1, tried re-updating again to 9.0.1, then tried restoring to factory settings. The problem remains.

I was using my camera successfully the day before I updated to iOS9, and now it no longer works.

I have had my camera replaced in the past, but had no problems with the replacement camera until now.

Same issue here, it remains after taking the following steps:

  • Factory Reset
  • Reset all Device Settings
  • Recovery Mode
  • Restore to previous backup
  • Update to 9.1.1 beta firmware

To be clear, the symptoms are:

  • Black screen when using rear facing camera
  • Flashlight app not working
  • An erroneous error by the Camera app that says it is too hot to use flash.

Running brand new iPhone 6s here, and this issue ONLY occurred after updating from 9.0 to 9.0.1.

I suspect this ought to be resolved in an update, however, I am disheartened that it doesn't work on the beta yet either.

I went to the genius bar with the same problem. They told me, it has to be a hardware problem and apple has no camera problems related to the new update. Right here I´m happy to see, I´m not the only one with this problem.

None of the suggested solutions worked for me (Iphone 5). The camera had no problems at all before installing the 9.0.1 update.

I hope, Apple will soon offer a solution instead of taking people for fools

Same issue with my iPhone 6 after updating iOS 9. Camera feature is no longer available. Can't be a hardware issue... otherwise, the software update messed up all of our hardware. Thanks Apple. Odd thing is, how my wife's iPhone 6 was fine with the update.

I'm sure all of us were hoping 9.0.1 would fix it. No such luck.😠

I'm not getting a black screen when using the camera feature... for me the camera feature/app is completely gone from my phone. There is zero option to even attempt to take a photo from lock screen, camera app(it doesn't exist), iMessage etc.

I was hoping to head to the local genius bar, but it looks like that's going to be a waste of time at this point.

Good news! I believe the hold/reset fixed it, although I am not sure if it was that or toggling the low power button. Either way, it seems to be working now.

Folks who are having this issue:

1. Hold down the Power and Reset buttons until the phone reboots. See if this fixes it.

2. If not, try toggling the Low Power feature on and off. Play with a few combinations and see if it comes on.

iPhone 6s running the 9.1.1 beta here.
