Podcast app crashing in iOS 9

I just installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. When opening the podcast app I get a white screen, "Updating Library" and then it crashes after about 15 seconds. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've quit the app.

Restarted the phone.

Tried putting phone in airplane mode and opening the app.

Same result each time.

Hi. My iPad Air 2 podcasts is working fine after updating iOS 9.0.1. However, my iPhone 6 is a different story. After updating iOS9.0.1 my Podcasts stopped working. It says "Updating Library..." then the screen goes black and finally back to the home screen. I tried calling Apple support and they had me reset the network settings - no difference. Then we did Reset All Settings - the phone home screen appearance looked different, but the Podcasts app still crashes. Can somebody give a step-by-step solution or do we just have to wait for Apple to fix the bug with a new update?

Same here: podcast app crashes when opened, showing an "updating library" message for about 10 seconds then completely crashing. I don't want to do a complete restore, (which someone on here says works), so will wait for the fix. Podcasts are about all I listen to nowadays, so this is kind of a big deal for me.

Sad that I had another big problem when I "upgraded" to iOS 9 on my iPad, with it freezing for several hours, then finally starting.

I miss Steve Jobs, feeling this this kind of screwup happened a LOT less often when he was in command.

This worked for a friend and I tried it and it also worked for me. First, if you are syncing your podcasts, turn off syncing on that device (laptop/desktop). If you are not syncing with another device, make a list of your podcasts/episodes (yep, it’s a pain, so if you are worried about losing anything, turn back here). Now delete all the podcasts on your device so the app is completely empty. After you have done that, look them up on your device using the Podcast app and add them back in directly from the podcast app, making sure you select “subscribe” on each podcast. Power your device off and then power it back on. Now you can sync with your device. Don’t know why this worked or if it will work for you - good luck.

Thank you Mr. Helper but I think you might have missed the part when the OP and the rest of us said WE CANT OPEN THE PODCAST APP!!!!!! lol

I had the same problem on both family phones, a 6+ and a 5s (although not on any of our iPads.)

My temporary work around was to try Downcast and Overcast, both great podcasting apps - and both have watch apps too!

The only thing that worked was to plug into iTunes, do a "restore" which resets to factory settings and makes a deep wipe of the phone, then start over from my last good backup. It was especially bad since I couldn't make a good backup because of the software glitch and had to use old backups. My daughter's wifi icloud backup was unusable too, and she didn't have an old iTunes backup, so she had to start over completely from scratch. This was a serious pain in the *** and took many, many hours. My young daughter was very sad. Also I lost weeks of painfully earned activity data from the watch - a serious blow!

I would say don't do this, but it's so important be be able to make good backups!!! What if I had lost a year worth of data? Mostly stuff is in iCloud but....

I just downloaded and installed today's iOS update for both my iPad2 and my iPhone6. I am now able to launch the Podcast app, but after several seconds (but longer than before) the Podcast app shuts down for both. I see progress in that the app at least stay open longer and some of my podcasts are starting to download, but once I hit play it crashes.

I also see that the size of documents and data continues to grow with each app start and crash, so there appears to be more to go still.

When I get time, I'll use iTunes to delete podcasts I've already downloaded and try again, just in case they were corrupted during my other debug efforts.
