Podcast app crashing in iOS 9

I just installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. When opening the podcast app I get a white screen, "Updating Library" and then it crashes after about 15 seconds. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've quit the app.

Restarted the phone.

Tried putting phone in airplane mode and opening the app.

Same result each time.

So, I updated to 9.0.2 and I shut podcast syncing off in iTunes. On the plus side, the app no longer crashes instantaneously. On the downside, it now takes three minutes (I exaggerate -- 2m 53s last time) of "Updating" before it suddenly crashes. Best of all, before it only took up about 300mb but now it's up to 1.3gb. I assume that's because earlier I had it set to sync podcasts. But when I go into settings it only shows three or four very small "saved" podcasts and none of the larger flles that are probably lost in the "updating" crash. Since you can't clear the "Documents & Data" I suppose I have to hope that 9.1 fixes it enough that I can clear the app out.

In the meantime I've begun using Downcast. I miss a few things about Podcasts but Downcast makes up for it with other features (like smarter playlists). I doubt I'll return to Podcasts. Ever since iTunes has decided to automatically and quietly "unsubscribe" me from podcasts that I haven't listened to in awhile it's been a pain; this just finally forced me out.

in my case Podcast had shown me probably 3 of the downloaded podcasts and a big file of some 1,3GB. I deleted the small files but it didn't help. after updating to 9.0.2 Podcast finally got around to unpack the 1,3 GB file (I guess that's what it did) and Podcast worked again ... it's all reorganized. Will need to look into the new features, nevertheless I also started using downcast.

Regarding the quietly "unsubscribe", it's a feature I liked because it wasn't that quiet: my version of Podcast showed a little icon with an exclamation mark to indicate that subscription was interrupted. It didn't bother me as I'm usually streaming and don't go that often for downloading.

I was so excited as I thought it was fixed. Like others, I was able to open and see my Podcasts and then eventually it crashed again. I tried to delete podcasts but couldn't do that before it would crash again. SO FRUSTRATING, I am supremely disappointed in Apple. Since this community is hosted by APPLE you would think they could have had someone chime to let their customers know they are aware and working on it and an ETA for a fix. Jobs famously said "people don't know what they want until you give it to them", he should have added "or when you take it away" which actually is a bigger thing. Look at ALL the frustrated and disappointed customers they have and all of the trust they have lost. None of these people will trust them with software updates again.
