visual voicemail not working in iOS 9...

I just updated my iPhone 6 plus to iOS9. When I open the "Phone" app, there is a message at the top of the list of my calls:

Visual Voicemail is currently unavailable.

Call Voicemail

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I guess going to an AT&T store someone might have some insight, or even an Apple store. I do know that I like nothing about this new update. The new font they are using isn't as easy to read on the fly, and the buttons seem to require more effort and a harder finger press to activate while typing. Delete is the worst on the phone. Someone at Apple please release a 9.0.1 fix to the Voicemail at least. I hate having to call and listen to each voicemail to delete it.

I skipped all prior iOS 9 upgrades (previous bad experiences with being an early Apple upgrade adopter), but I installed the most recent version 9.0.2 (13A452) day before yesterday (10-01-15), and voice mail was gone. Verizon recommended removing the SIMM card (which didn't work). Fortunately the Network Reset procedure you outlined in the first post of this thread worked for me. Thanks.

I did some research and found out something very interesting. Voice mails are stored on the SIM card. Originally what happened to me was that I backed up my iPhone 5s to iTunes (after I upgraded to ios9- I should have done it before), then restored the iPhone 6s to the latest back up of the iPhone 5s. At first I had all the voice mails from the 5s, but then only a few disappeared. I didn't want to restore again because I have been using the 6s for awhile- all the new data.. Anyway, after I researched I found a youtube post for an AT&T iPhone 6 with similar problems. The dude had found out that the SIM from his previous phone had all his saved voice mail. This crazy fix made me somewhat happy as the ONLY missing voice mails on my 6s were the ones from my mother (who recently passed- which was strange in itself), but if I interchange the SIM cards I will not have the data from the new sim card. Another interesting thing happened- all of the last year to date recent calls that I deleted on the recent call list just decided to show up one day. Quite perplexing to say the least.I will try to change the password and see if I get all my voice mails back that way.

Here is the link to the youtube video I found: https://youtu.be/1cDgMniVw7M

Thanks for the info.

If anyone is experiencing the same sort of problems I would be interested to know.

I have a similar problem... I get that visual voicemail message and the red notification dot on my iphone too now.

I can make it go away by switching on my mobile data - 4G. Everything works hunky dory when I do that. voicemails and everything works great with no error message...

When I turn my mobile data/4G off, then the red dot and the message comes back again. Visual voicemails are currently unavailable it says...

Now, I don't think there's anything wrong there. I think visual voicemail is supposed to only work when you have 4G or 3G turned on....

I just don't want the silly notification message there when 4G is turned off. Is it possible to make it go away, or is this little red dot part of iOS 9?

I get the feeling that it could actually be a part of iOS 9 ... since my Dad also now receives this little error message when the mobile data network is switched off.
