Help! iOS 9 - No Service on iPhone 5

Just installed iOS 9 - and after that lost connection with my cellular network - "NO SERVICE". I tried everything, restored the entire phone - NOTHING! I can't use my phone anymore.

Please help!

I had this same exact problem after updating to ios 9.0.2 but not from earlier versions of the software.

I tried and failed with rebooting, restoring network connection, turning airplane mode on and off and restoring my phone through iPhone settings and through iTunes.

I'm not sure if this was said but here is the solution that worked for me after trying a million other ways!!

*If you are able to, backup your phone before you try this*

1.Turn off iPhone

2. Open iTunes on computer

3. Hold down HOME button on iPhone THEN plug into cord that is connected to computer with iTunes open while STILL HOLDING HOME BUTTON

- you should be holding the home button down before you plug it in not after, and keep holding it

4. You will get a prompt to restore the phone - click "Restore iPhone on iTunes"

You will then have to restore your phone from a past backup - hopefully it was recent!

I hope this helps because it took me a long time to figure this out and I was about to go to apple

**sorry for the caps lock I just needed to emphasize some important points here 🙂

P.S. I have the iPhone 5

I upgraded Verizon two 5S's to 9.0.2. One had no problem, the other intermittently shows "no service" even though the other is showing 3 bars and LTE right beside it. Curiuosly, one can send and receive calls (usually) even when "no service" is displayed.

The phone with the issue put up a dialog at the first startup after the update that it was going to 'update it's Verizon network settings'. The working one did not.

Users Dzell ( thread pg 1) and CyclingLady (page 2) reported fixing the problem by clearing 'profiles'. Sounded promising, but I can't figure out where/how they did that. Anyone know?

I wish I had taken screenshots as I did it, but of course I had no idea it would actually work since it wasn't the first thing I tried to do, and I had no instructions for doing it. I eliminated the item from the phone, but I will try to step through what I did.

1. Open Settings

2. Open General

3. Scroll down almost to the very end of the options

4. Select Profile

5. Near the bottom of the screen there is an option to delete, but I don't recall what it said. There was an expired certificate for the t-mobile app from when I first bought the phone. Once I deleted it, the whole profile option disappeared. I restarted the phone, and voila, no issues with service since.

I have to say, I was worried about installing 9.0.2, and kept telling it to remind me later. At some point, it just installed it, and I haven't had any issues. I hope the Profile option resolves your issues. If not, I would suggest putting two phones side by side and walk through the menu options until you find the one that's different, and check the settings. My partner and I have the same model phone, but hers was replaced under warranty, and didn't have that profile menu with the expired certificate.

I thought I had it figured out. Every time I got the no service error I would go into system settings then cellular and toggle the sim lock button. Didn't enter anything, just hit cancel. Seemed to get it working. However, after a few days of using this trick, the sim actually locked (no code entered) and the phone was dead.

I was pretty sure it all led to a corrupt sim card so I had it replaced. It worked — for about a 1/2 hour.

The guy at the AT&T store did say he's been seeing more people come in with this problem.

Hi All, just wanted to give this update. I did get the replacement iPhone 6P and it worked out of the box with my original SIM card - new phone came with IOS 8.4. The update went from 8.4 to 9.0.2 and the phone still works, no issue with "No Service". Maybe skipping the original IOS 9/9.0.1 prevents the issue from happening in the first place.

I don't think they are prepared to do such a deep diagnostic in a regular store.. However this issue raises some important questions e.g will they replace a phone with expired guarantee. For iphone 6 and 6s it is not a big deal since those are probably still under warranty, but with a 5S like mine it would be a real shame for Apple if they leave like this

well, that is the question we are all wondering isn't it?

When I went online for support for my iphone 4s which has this same problem, I was told that they were making support exceptions for expired warranty phones for the iOS 9 upgrade.

It would seem that they would do the same in stores. I hope to have the time to go to a store tomorrow here a see if they will replace the phone.

This has been a HUGE time sink and I'm almost ready to give up and buy another brand, as in the 20 years during which I have owned cellular phones I have never had something like this happen, and neither have I been pleased with the lack of support from the manufacturer.

I have a 5s and I updated to 9.0.2 a few days ago. Yesterday it dropped my cell signal and just says 'searching...' all the time. Wifi still works, but no cellular service. I restarted my phone a few times, re-inserted the SIM card, and reset the network settings. I don't want to reset to factory settings, and it sounds like it doesn't fix it either. I'm going to to US Cellular (my carrier) and see what they say about it. Has anyone found a fix for this?
