iOS 9/iTunes 12.3 not syncing app through devices

I've recently updated my IOS and ITUNES to the latest versions and when I sync my iphone is not syncing the apps automatically on my mac as it used to do before.

Is that a glitch of the new IOS?
Any easy solution to sort it out?

Just more doublespeak. Apple obviously has the trimmed apps on their servers,

otherwise how can they put the trimmed apps directly to the iDevice. So, iTunes (and Apple)

know which iDevices you are syncing and have synced, so why can't the proper "trimmed apps"

be downloaded if requested directly via iTunes to Apple. iTunes can just tell the servers "this

app is used on this iDevice and that iDevice" and the server delivers the proper apps or app

package.

OR IS THAT TOO LOGICAL!!!

I have two apps that require updating, one is 38.5 Mb in size and the other 89.2. The first is due to take 25 minutes, the second 3 HOURS to download. Meanwhile my PC is virtually unusable (one year old, 2 TB hard drive, 16 GB ram and nothing running other than this support page). This morning on my new iPhone 6S plus I downloaded the 38.5 mb app in less than one minute using the same wi fi as I am now using on PC.

I'm not moving to downloading the apps direct to each device as I intend to continue keeping them all on my PC (and I also copy them over to a lap top as a back up measure in case the PC fails), up to os9 I could take advantage of the speed of the device downloading the apps and transfer to the computer which certainly speeded things up. Currently had to pause the download of the apps to enable me to type this post. If I were downloading an HD iTunes movie of 5 Gb or more my PC would cope well with it, and take maybe 1.5 hours to download so why do apps take so long to download - is this part of the plot to get us to use the cloud?

Blame app thinning. As I understand it the updates we download to our mobile devices aren't universal apps; they're thinned versions of the app containing only the code and resources needed for that specific device. The universal apps are downloaded to iTunes; when we sync our devices to iTunes it sends the thinned code necessary that specific device.

Maybe this is a great feature. I have a 64 GB iPhone 6+. I don't care that some apps take up lots of space. My phone has has lots of space left after all the media and apps are on it. What I do care about is consuming bandwidth 3x (once for my iPad, iPhone, and iTunes). When I'm mobile (50% of the time) this is a big deal as the Verizon data plan I use when mobile is capped.

It sounds like this is a great solution for developers but it comes at the expense of some users.

Hello all,

I have an iPhone 6s with iOS 9.0 and am facing the same issue. Apple's customer support agent connected to my PC to watch the process and felt there was something wrong. The advisor was puzzled, asked me to reboot, swap USB cables, USB Ports etc. The whole process took an hour to no avail. We even tried deleting the backup. Following that, I came across this thread!

This morning a senior advisor called me and insisted that they are not aware of this change to iOS 9 and strongly believes it's an issue with iTunes on my PC. I am surprised that they have not been made aware of this. The advisor asserts that everyone who have complained here have some sort of issue with iTunes and it's an anomaly.

Anyway, I am due to have my 6s replaced next week and fear that restoring the backup to the new device wouldn't bring the Apps back; or worse still the data within the Apps themselves e.g. game progress.

What are your thoughts on this please? It took me 2 days to set up the 6s the first time round and I don't want to go through the same.

Thanks.

I've just moved from 6+ to 6S+ and the apps moved over. Be aware that there's two stages to the restore, the first puts everything but apps on the phone, then it appears to have finished and I almost disconnected but was distracted and noticed that suddenly the apps began to synch across so do wait for that to complete. You still have to re-add films, music and books though. My game progress (well, the angry birds, solitaire and bejewelled scores) all transferred over.

Running OS 10.5.5 (haven't mustered the courage to take the El Capitan plunge yet...) and iTunes 12.3.0.44; syncing with an iPhone 5S.

_If_ I'm understanding this thread correctly, and _if_ it is no longer necessary to sync Apps to one's computer (particularly since the device-specific, "trimmed" App can always be subsequently downloaded), is there any real value to storing a back-up copy of the current version on one's desktop computer, and, if not, can these Apps be safely deleted?

_If_ Apps are now device-specific downloads (for space-saving purposes, which is great BTW), I'm surprised that the ability to sync all (dynamic) device content (e.g., Messages, Contacts, Photos, Music, Notes, etc.) now excludes Apps.

Confused, but trying to understand...

I am continuing to download to PC and keep a back up. I have unlimited broadband but my provider does throttle speeds if I use a lot and recently due to the many app updates (including some of the larger apps being updated almost every day due to bugs) I've been suffering from that recently. Thus I need to only download updates once (to my PC) to then synch to my three devices. I also presume, because I have the apps backed up on my PC, when I restored my iPhone 6S plus from my iPhone 6 plus back-up, the reason the apps went straight on to the phone was because they were available on the PC with my phone back up containing game scores etc.

(If anyone knows if they don't keep apps on PC will they be immediately available to go on to the phone or will they be re-downloaded from the cloud??)

My own thinking is that if you only have one device, have no problems with data provider slowing your downloads due to heavy use, and the time to wait for all apps to re-download, then you do not need to keep them on your PC. My app library is around 72 Gb but I also have a 2 Tb hard drive on the computer so that amount of storage doesn't worry me - although I do need to go through my apps to see if I really do want to keep them all (downloaded a lot of freebies in the early days which I probably no longer need).

As to other purchases made on devices backing up, so far I've purchased one book via my phone and found it did not automatically transfer to my PC, I had to select transfer purchases to move it into my iTunes library on PC.

Also, the Apple apps that you get free with iPad/iPhone (Numbers, Keynote, Pages) did not show on my PC as an update but did on my phone. I had to go to the app store where they did show as updateable but presumably because they became available free with specific devices they've never shown in app updates but before, of course, I was able to download them to device and transfer back.

Although it is mildly irritating for me to have to wait ages for my PC downloads, I'm now in the habit of downloading to PC and synching to each device and accept that if I am away from home app updates now have to wait until I'm home.

Add me to the chorus.

I just updated to iTunes 12, somewhat reluctantly, for compatibility with iOS 9, and now I find that it won't upload updated apps from my iTunes library to my devices when I perform a Sync.

I understand App Thinning has forced the remove of the capability to pull apps from devices to one's iTunes library, but it should still work the other way around, shouldn't it? Syncs still push music, contacts, and other data to devices, but apps don't sync.

Apple needs to tear down the Winchester House of iTunes, and start over. Heaping kludge upon kludge has turned it into both an aesthetic, and functional mess that will eventually collapse under its own weight.
