iOS 9/iTunes 12.3 not syncing app through devices

I've recently updated my IOS and ITUNES to the latest versions and when I sync my iphone is not syncing the apps automatically on my mac as it used to do before.

Is that a glitch of the new IOS?
Any easy solution to sort it out?

My apps in iTunes on my Windows 8.1 PC are synching to all devices. I manually manage my devices, not sure if that makes any difference but maybe worth trying?

Is it possible it works for me because all my devices are the latest, with the highest possible capacity - I assume the app I download to my computer is the full app rather than one that is thinned down for, say, a 32 Gb iPhone 4/5 or whatever?

Latest updates : iTunes 12.3.1.23 on OSX 10.11 and iOS 9.1 on iPhone 6s ...didn't fix the app syncing issue for me 😟

New apps still aren't transferred to iTunes, nor are existing updated apps.

I had 30 updates pending for my iPhone apps on iTunes... It nearly took the whole night 😀

iOS 9.1 release notes mentioned : "Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from updating from the App Store" which doesn't seem like a syncing issue.

I do as well, on my Mac. I resisted updating to iTunes 12 for a long time; 11 was working fine for me.

Sync failures haven't been an uncommon thing in the past; this is just the first time I've ever experienced it.

I've reinstalled iTunes, my devices have been freshly restored from backups after updating to 9.1 (which was another adventure altogether). I just think it's broken. iTunes is probably the worst piece of software in wide use today, and I think that when Apple finally decides to address it, they'll probably follow past form and come up with a neutered replacement that will lack many of the functions that will either be eliminated, or replaced by something that forces users to replicate through iCloud. I can easily see any kind of local syncing removed from a future version.

They've already eliminated device to iTunes transfers (due to App Thinning; sorry folks, it's not coming back unless they build slice management logic into iTunes), and iTunes to device transfers can also be deemed expendable by directing users to update devices though the App Store.

Apple's (and Google's, etc.) ultimate aim is probably to eliminate any kind of local sync, backup and management altogether, whether on devices or computers. That further helps lock users into ecosystems, promotes subscription services like Music, and so on. Most people won't care, and they'll be placated by the "ease" and "no worries" such paradigms bring, but that relies heavily on the reliability of the cloud, and putting faith that whichever ecosystem you're locked into will ultimately protect your data, and respect your privacy.

hmm, so if everything in the future were to be in the cloud, how long will it take to set up a new iPhone? Currently I restore from the back up of the previous phone. I need to re-add movies, music and books but apps are re-installed just after the back up is restored. I have 128 Gb devices, it takes quite a while to do the restore and then add the other stuff, imagine if that other stuff were in the cloud and not on my PC, and with the current slow download I have - could take several days to get my new phone to be useable.

Today there was a new iTunes download - it took half an hour to download the first 30 mb of the files shared by these updates and then failed, and again around 30 mb into the iTunes download it failed (something about an invalid signature). I then had to start again and in total it took just over two hours to get the new download (which used to take minutes).

I have an app update of 1.19 Gb, I started to download that last night but after two hours only about 700 mb had downloaded, it was late and I needed my sleep. Shut my PC down and thought this morning the download would start from where it left off as that is how iTunes used to work. Nope, got to download the whole 1.19 Gb again and delete the temporary download from last night.

I just cannot see forcing people to only use the cloud is the way to go, it's going to cause a lot of hassle to users, particularly if devices have to be restored for any reason, not just when you upgrade.

Hi Folks,

Here's the bad news. I have been in communication with an Apple consultant in the USA with this issue and he escalated it to Apple engineers to see if there was a fix for it. Unfortunately, he just got back to me by phone and told me that Apple have decided to remove Notes synchronisation with Outlook Notes, so according to him, there will be no more syncing of Outlook Notes to iPhone Notes.

From my study of this problem, it seems that Apple has removed IMAP syncing of apps and that is what is causing the issue. I don't know if that is all that there is to it, but it's a start.

Who knows what may eventuate in the future, but i suggest that as many people as possible who are furious at this idiotic crippling of a very important app should get onto the Apple Feedback site and lodge very strong complaints and demand that Apple either reinstate Notes sync with Outlook or consult with Microsoft to see if some sort of compatibility between Outlook Notes and Apple Notes can be achieved to restore this functionality.

Notes is a crucial app for most business people such as myself and syncing from my Outlook to my mobile office (the iPhone) is essential and Apple have now stuffed it up. They should now un-stuff it for the hundreds of thousands of iPhone users that rely on Notes syncing to Outlook.

But go and complain long and loud and very bitterly and hopefully Apple will come to its senses.

I empathize, but in Apple's view, all of their users have access to reliable high-speed internet, and are within proximity to an Apple B&M store. Everyone else who doesn't fit that profile is an edge case, and less, if any, concern. Unfortunately, despite the investment, Apple's online services have been adequate, but no more. Just last week, I was getting 404 errors trying to update an app. I had to alert the author, who alerted Apple, before it was fixed.

In my sampling of iPhone users , they function solely as standalone devices. None ever make a connection to iTunes, or sync to a computer. Everything is handled through iCloud. The iTMS handles it all -- your apps, your music, your videos, your backups. Owning your own stuff, like CDs, and DVDs, is passé.

The media companies love it too, because 1) they've gotten to a point where people will pay for entertainment again. 2) payment per listen/watch has always been their holy grail. Subscriptions are a big step toward that goal. No ownership, just rental, and a continual revenue stream.

Back on topic:

I've tried more things, like de-authorizing the computer, signing out of the store; it's just broken, and from my research, not an anomaly.

Of course, we all know that the internet is 100% available at all times and at all places

and never, never, never, never goes down.

The iTunes Store is always, always, always, always, on-line and accessible 1000%

of the time and never, never, never, never has any problems.

iCloud is always, always, always available and is 1000% reliable.

All except when your iPhone or iPad burps and you need to do a complete restore.

I have found it the other way around - just about everybody I know syncs their iPhones to their computers, whether it is to back them up - and restore them after an update stuff-up - or as every one of my associates does, sync to Outlook because that program is vitally important to them as their information centre on their computers.

Relying on a permanent Internet connection or the Cloud is ridiculous because there are many places where neither the Internet or the Cloud is available via the phone service because there is no cell in range. Personally, I don't use Cloud services at all, because as a computer and IT consultant, I've heard more than my share of stories of people whose Cloud storage was either corrupted or hacked - look them up on the Internet and see. So I transfer all data between my computer and iPhone via the Lightning cable or my own very secure Wi-Fi network in my home and office.

Nevertheless, Apple should not have crippled the Notes app in such a way, considering that so many people rely on it for their business use. If Apple want the iPhone to be considered a reliable business tool, then Apple need to consider that Notes sync is vital for so many business people and should now look at restoring full sync functionality to Outlook.

I Hate the new version 12.x of iTunes and iOS 9. I used to be able to sync my Music manually by only dragging the albums that I want onto my phone. The other stuff such as photos, ringtones and books were left on auto-sync whenever I sync my device. These days it is not possible to do this anymore. If Music is managed manually, the rest have to be managed manually too. The moment I check the box that reads 'Manage music manually on...' Then I lose all my books, ringtones etc on the phone!!!
