Ipad really slow after update to iOS 9

I updated my iPad mini (1) to iOS 9 yesterday, and now it is really slow. It takes forever to open or close apps, the swipe to close is a real pain, I have to swipe several times before I can close an app, and sometimes they just won't go away. I am getting very frustrated with this and wish I had not gone and updated it. Has anyone else had this issue?

Well, I had hopes, that the update today would help with this issue, but it only seems to have made it even worse. Now it's constantly freezing and I have to read-set it almost every time I try to use it. Beginning to wonder if I Apple ever looks at these forums. My guess is not or they would have addressed the issue in the latest update. A friend has suggested that I re-install iOS 9 from my computer, but that would mean I will lose everything and I really do not want to do that. Still incredibly frustrated and now getting really annoyed with this whole issue.

As promised, I took my iPad 3 to the Genius Bar. No success. They first reinstalled IOS 9 claiming that rather than applying patches, a full reinstall may be more effective. No luck. Then they wiped the iPad clean to factory defaults and did a full restore. No luck. iPad remains sluggish and diffucult to swipe apps closed. Apple suggested deleting apps because I'm using 12 gig of 16 gig capacity. Sounds like the only fix for everyone having problems with older models is to upgrade.

The common problem among everyone here is that they have an old iOS device. iPad Mini 1 is a few years old and has the computing power to handle iOS 6. The newer iOS updates are designed to take advantage of the most recent hardware. Older devices weren't built for iOS 8 or 9, so they struggle to keep up performance. Always consider this before installing an update. Your solution is to install an older iOS, or buy a new device. Apple wants you to do the latter.

I have the same problem since IOS 8 in IPAD 2 and Mini (1). The only solution is to go back to ios 7.1.2 or 6. Please, Apple, let us to go back. The user experience is horrible with IOS8 and 9. And Apple will no spend time trying to solve issues of old HW. I think that is a problem of memory management, and maybe, application and data encription. I have read that IOS 8 introduces aditional security meassures, maybe affecting performance.

I have Ipad Mini (1), it became practically un-usable since iOS 9 upgrade.

If Apple can not fix the problem soon, I need help to downgrade IOS version (8.x) and use it until this problem is fixed. Tried a few methods myself and failed.

In the future, I hope some test engineers at Apple take a look at old iPads and do not let those to be upgraded if they see any problem (which is actually very easy to spot, just use the device for 5 minutes after the upgrade, it should not cost a lot ? )

I have upgraded my own iPad 3, my Wife's iPad 2 and my new iPod Touch, all with 64 GBs of storage space, and every device had a successful upgrade to iOS 9 with no issues.

If your iPad was near full (2 GBs of free storage space or less) this is but only one reason why your older iPad isn't coping well with iOS 9.

You need to backup all of your data on your iPad, either to iTunes on a computer, through Apple's own iCloud OR a dedicated Wireless WiFi hard drive, and then start deleting items off of your iPad.

You should start with paring down any music, movies and photos you may have on your iPad.

Then look at apps that you may no longer use and delete these (you can always redownload deleted apps at a later time.

Ideally, your iDevice should maintain a minimum free storage amount of 4- 6 GBs or greater on any iDevice, plus, more than 50% battery status to ensure proper operation, as well as, to ensure the possibility of a successful iOS upgrade/update installation.

In addition, it is best to upgrade an iDevice connected up to computer running iTunes with you iDevice sync'd and backed up through iTunes rather than Over The Air (OTA) using a wireless WiFi connection.
