iTunes 12.3 doesn't recognize my iPhone

My iTunes stopped recognizing my iPhone immediately after I updated it to the latest version (12.3) today. When I plug in my device, the laptop makes all the required sounds and the phone starts charging. My iPhone then asks me to allow the laptop to access photos and videos. But that's as far as it goes. iTunes doesn't start syncing with the phone and the phone icon doesn't show up.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with iOS 9 because I had been able to sync my files using iOS 9 after updating my phone yesterday. But immediately after updating iTunes, the problem started.

Has anyone else experienced this problem after updating their iTunes? By the way, I'm using an iPhone 5. I would appreciate any help.

I am having the same problem but, with my ipod touch not being recognized by itunes. I have went through a lot of crap the last couple of days trying to get the stupid itunes to recognize my ipod. I didn't do anything for my itunes to act this way because the other day my ipod showed as connected but, it was extremely slow with syncing and it would freeze and not even sync any new music and tried syncing old music that was already on the ipod and then some of my music got deleted from my ipod because of these problems and then eventually my ipod stopped showing up in itunes and is no longer recognized by itunes and I have done so much stuff and wasted a lot of time trying to get this stupid thing to work and it isn't going to work ever again so thanks a lot apple for having itunes with so many problems. I have been using itunes since 2011 and it was really good with little to no problems and the past couple of years there have been constant problems and it seems with each new update brings more problems. I am very upset I wasted over 400.00 on a ipod touch I only got to use for a couple of months and now it is completely useless because I am never going to be able to sync any more music on there and if I ever get to there will always be problems. What a rip off. I have done most or all of the troubleshooting tips and nothing has worked. So it's a lost cause. I deserve a refund for the ipod I wasted my money on. I know it's not my ipod's fault but, it's basically useless when you have to rely on itunes for syncing music. If only there were another way. I can list all the time I wasted trying to fix the problem. Here is what I did. I closed itunes and then re opned it,disconnected ipod from usb and then reconnected it,restarted my computer, uninstalled itunes and reinstalled itunes,

did that thing that says restart the apple mobile device service, authorized the computer, reset all of my ipod settings, restarted my ipod many times and nothing changed after all that I did. All the time wasted I can never get back, Apple you should be better than this. This is ridiculous I am so disappointed. How can you keep letting things like this happen. Nobody is perfect I get it but, I know this shouldn't be happening as much as it has been happening and especially since this problem can't be resolved for me it is very upsetting and while many will still put up with this I can only tolerate so much before stop using itunes and ipod completely and just us a regular mp3 player. I don't want to have to do that but, if things don't get better soon I will have to. I love music too much to have to deal with these problems constantly. So if there is a way of fixing this that hasn't been tried yet I can consider trying it but, I doubt it will do any good. I am posting here to see if there is some sort of miracle or something that can fix this problem for long term. Please I beg of you someone help me. This is driving me crazy! I won't even listen to my ipod because why bother I can't even add any more music on there and that is what I wanted to do. Please help! S.O.S.

If your iOS device isn't showing in iTunes try the following:

  1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
  2. Plug in your device
  3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
  4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
  5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
  7. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
  8. Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
  9. Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager

For step 3 above, open the device manager. Expand any of these sections that are listed.

  • Universal Serial Bus Controllers
  • Imaging Devices
  • Portable Devices
  • Other Devices

Connect the device. You should hear the telltale sound of Windows device connection and one section should gain a new entry. That should be your device. It may not be labelled correctly at this stage.

Or try If iTunes doesn‘t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Or lastly try rolling back to the last build of iTunes that worked for you. See iTunes installers for download links. If you're rolling back from 12.3.3.17 to 12.3.2.35, for example, then you'll also need to roll back the database in the way described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. The tip includes suggestions for reintroducing any recent purchases so at worst you lose a few playcounts and/or a recently created playlist.

Nope! None of this works. I tried it! Not even allowed to use older versions of itunes because It won't open and I get a message saying it can't open and something about the newest version of itunes. Also the other thing doesn't work either. So it's useless! I will never use my ipod or itunes again and itunes will never recogonize my ipod touch again! At this point I hate you apple and itunes. You suck and we all deserve better than what we get! I wasted hundreds of dollars on ipods to get screwed over by you. I give up there is no way to solve this problem even though I wish there was. All I can do is admit and accept defeat and move on to other mp3 players that I won't have to use itunes for. I will make sure to spread the word about my horrible experience with apple and itunes.

As given, this is expected, and I explained what to do.

Okay so I finally got in contact with apple support on the phone and they helped me and the problem was resolved even though it took about 45 minutes to resolve the issue. Here is what might help if all else fails. You must uninstall all 6 of these programs and in the correct order as listed below for this to work properly.

1. Uninstall itunes

2. Uninstall apple software update

3. Uninstall bonjour

4. uninstall Apple mobile device support

5. uninstall apple aplication support 32 bit

6. uninstall apple application support 64 bit

Then re install itunes and all of these programs will be reinstalled when itunes installs.

Then when installation is done open itunes and connect your device!

Also thanks for you trying to help! I appreciate any help I can get because that way I can get closer to the soulution! I am in a better mood now that I can have my itunes recognize my ipod and it syncs now! Woo Hoo! I hope this information might help others if they need it!
