iTunes 12.3 issue with iPod Touch

Since upgrading to iTunes 12.3 yesterday i have been unable to connect my 1st generation iPod touch to Itunes. Shortly before upgrading to 12.3 i had added new podcasts without issue using iTunes 12.2 and did not received any communication errors whatsoever, but as a soon as the upgrade to 12.3 was complete the ipod touch would not connect and gave me the error

iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch “Ipod” because an invalid response was received from the device.

Is this perhaps an issue with 12.3 and can i simply revert back to itunes 12.2 to regain my itunes functionality?

Apple is not supporting my Gen 1 iTouch with the later versions of iTunes on PC.

iTunes provided this error message "iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch because an invalid response was received from the device." using my Generation 1 iPhone (2007) and iTunes version 12.6.0.100

There are two solutions for this, either find an Apple computer running an earlier version of iTunes, or find a PC version of iTunes that is earlier than version 12.

I found iTunes Version 8.0.2.20 for the PC (64bit) and that worked fine on my Win8.1 PC.

Caution - If you try to reload iPhone firmware holding down the power plus home button, and keeping the home button pressed, but you dont have a working iTunes - you risk "bricking" the iPhone until you can reload the firmware with an older version of iTunes.

The FileHorse website provides many older versions of iTunes for the PC.

Downgrading iTunes can present problems since sometimes the update changes your iTunes library so it will not work with a previous version.

Have you tried:

This should also apply to Win 10 since I can't find an article on Win 10

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Also

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reboot the computer

- Try another USB port

_ try another cable

I, too am hugely disappointed. My gen 1 iPod Touch is a very old friend and won't talk to the new 12.3 Itunes and I've spent an entire afternoon that I will never get back uninstalling and reinstalling, trying different cables and so on as advised. It's no good Apple procrastinating that this isn't a fault with its new software as an identical computer with the earlier version of the software doesn't have a problem. I suppose the company's reaction to this will show us all whether this is cynical designed-in obselescence or just a genuine glitch which it fixes quickly. A

i fixed it.

on a mac

1. go to http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and download iPod touch 1G 3.1.3

2. get your itouch to go into restore mode doing that whole thing with the power/home button

3. hold the option key while clicking the restore button in iTunes and you'll get an option to choose the firmware for restoration

4. restore using the 3.1.3 and it worked for me

i didn't even know there was a 3.1.3 available because it never updated from my iTunes. hope this helps.
