iTunes 12.3 issue with iPod Touch

Since upgrading to iTunes 12.3 yesterday i have been unable to connect my 1st generation iPod touch to Itunes. Shortly before upgrading to 12.3 i had added new podcasts without issue using iTunes 12.2 and did not received any communication errors whatsoever, but as a soon as the upgrade to 12.3 was complete the ipod touch would not connect and gave me the error

iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch “Ipod” because an invalid response was received from the device.

Is this perhaps an issue with 12.3 and can i simply revert back to itunes 12.2 to regain my itunes functionality?

Hi, not doing so brilliantly as the rest of the correspondents on this subject. I've downloaded the Felixbruns de software upgrade. Followed the instructions from pwkim52 on plugging in, turning off, holding power, holding power and home and lo and behold the restore box comes up for the iTouch. Trouble is, when I try to restore on a ITunes (on a PC) it tells me "The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1)'.

There was some discussion about selecting an option key earlier in this string, but that doesn't seem to work. I've unplugged everything else, closed down the firewall and so on, but nothing seems to help.

Suggestions would be most welcome.

In fact using the shift key gets me to a box where I can chose a file, but I don't seem to be able to find where the file has been downloaded. Even if I punch in iPod1,1_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw into the search box it can't find it. Makes me wonder if the thing has been downloaded properly at all. What do you guys think? Try to down load it again? Feel like Bonnie Prince Charlie watching the spider.

I currently have windows 10 and I have the 1st generation ipod. It actually downloaded as a zip file, the trick is to change the extension from .zip to .ipsw. The issue is resolved now. I was really upset when it stopped working, because I knew there was nothing wrong with the ipod itself. But you guys are amazing thanks a ton!
