iCloud Backup Broken After iOS 9 Upgrade

iCloud Backup on both my iPhone and iPad have been working fine for years until I upgraded to iOS 9. After the upgrade it said my latest backup was "Never". When I pressed "Backup Now" the progress bar flashed quickly then went back to saying my latest backup was "Never" (no error messages).

I decided to try turning iCloud Backup off and back on again. When I try to turn in on it says "iCloud Backup Failed. There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup.".

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix?

I have this problem too immediately after updating my iPad mini retina (model ME280LL/A) after upgrading to iOS 9.

previous version was 8.4.1

I have just completed a backup before the upgrade.

guess I better not update any of my other iDevices?

This is an major problem.

I had this same issue come up on my iPhone 4 running iOS 7.1.2. I upgraded my iPhone 5s to 9.0, then to 9.0.1....

First I had issues with the iOS 9 device. Then I deleted my iCloud account, added it back in, turned on backup, and was finally able to back up. Next day, after I had my iPhone 4 plugged in to backup, work up to see "Not enough Storage" even though I had almost 7GB available, and my backup was 2.6GB.

I deleted my Photos and large items, then reset the device. Then tried to manually back up. No dice.

Later that day - it backed up with no problem.....

Restores, and Resetting to Factory settings, no crazy stuff. Maybe some backup deletes, toggling backup off and on, signing out of iCloud and back in in various places (Mac, devices, etc.). But hopefully with some of the more innocuous troubleshooting processes, things will get straightened out! Best of luck 🙂

A Big WOW!!!!!! I have same problem and just hung up with Apple, who said they never heard of this issue. This was a senior advisor mind you. From the looks of this thread, how can a senior advisor have never heard of this issue. PLUS, he wanted to put my phone in troubleshooting mode for the engineers. Riiiiiiiiight!!!!!

ANY SOLUTION TO THIS YET???

Yes I have the same issue. I am really regretting upgrading to os9 as it seems so buggy. I have this issue and also the non receiving syncing issue that I see being discussed. It only seems to be effecting my phone, iphone6. I think I might have to restore the phone back to before the update. Apple please look at the issues mentioned in these forums!!

DON'T KNOW WHETHER THIS HELPS - IT RELATES ONLY TO MY IPAD AIR 2 - BUT HITHERTO I'D ALWAYS BACKED UP THE IPAD TO ITUNES BUT THOUGHT YOU KNOW WHAT I'LL FINALLY DO AN ICLOUD BACKUP. WELL I PLUGGED IT INTO MY MACBOK PRO, LOCKED THE SCREEN AND MADE SURE I HAD A DECENT WI FI CONNECTION - AND THEN WAITED AND WAITED. THE BLUE LINE WOULD ONLY GET SO FAR AND NO FURTHER AND EVEN THOUGH IT SAID 'A MINUTE REMAINING' THE LITTLE GEAR WHEEL WOULD JUST SPIN AND SPIN. AFTER NUMEROUS EFFORTS I SIMPLY DECIDED OK IM JUST GOING TO LET YOU STAY ATTACHED TO MY MACBOOK. IT TOOK 15 MINUTES TO FINALY GET AN ICLOUD BACKUP. SO MY ADVICE IS TO SIMPLY WAIT IT OUT. WE'RE ALL IMPATIENT THESE DAYS AND EXPECT EVERYTHING TO WORK QUICKLY AND WITHOUT A HITCH. HOPE THIS HELPS ANYONE.

I have 4 devices upgraded to iOS 9. All 4 experienced the icloud backup issue, but now all 4 work again.

Here is what I have done, although I'm not sure what helped to fix the issue.

1. delete all old backups. I did it with the System settings on my iMac.

2. slim down the size of the first backup by unticking apps with large backup volume (for me these are photo and video apps).

3. launch manual backup to iCloud. I had to make several tries before succeeding.

4. tick back apps I have unticked.

5. 2 or 3 days later, I note that the automatic backup works again on all 4 devices. I said "work again" because the last backup shows a time and date within the last 24 hours, but did not try to make a restore from these backups to ensure that they are not corrupted.

I'm having the same issues. Spent a few hours on chat and later time on the phone with a "senior advisor". I have restored, setup as new, attempted a backup all a few times. The senior advisor's only advice was to say that my backup is corrupt in some way and I need to start from scratch. Never mind that there were no issues until iOS9 and there are plenty of people here looking for a solution to this same issue!
