iCloud Backup Broken After iOS 9 Upgrade

iCloud Backup on both my iPhone and iPad have been working fine for years until I upgraded to iOS 9. After the upgrade it said my latest backup was "Never". When I pressed "Backup Now" the progress bar flashed quickly then went back to saying my latest backup was "Never" (no error messages).

I decided to try turning iCloud Backup off and back on again. When I try to turn in on it says "iCloud Backup Failed. There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup.".

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix?

I have this problem too immediately after updating my iPad mini retina (model ME280LL/A) after upgrading to iOS 9.

previous version was 8.4.1

I have just completed a backup before the upgrade.

guess I better not update any of my other iDevices?

This is an major problem.

Cuts off about the point it should be finishing, Says phone disconnected. Yes, most current version (but through Windows Vista), Only deleted iCloud... I'll be ****** if I'm gonna clear it out and have this thing brick on me, so for now the hardwired backups are staying put. As for the trouble shooting, I've done everything short of staring down an Apple Genius because I already know the official stance and I don't have 8 hours to back up and restore as new. only to find out, as per this and many other 30 plus page threads, that this is on their end.

I called when this started as I have already said and had a person tell me without blinking that a 0gb backup was perfectly normal and standard. That was back in September at the beginning of pOS 9 before things were proper ****** like they are now.

Okay, I read earlier somewhere to try the rear USB port on the computer (which I had never done) and am happy to report that backing up to iTunes worked. I have NO IDEA why, but I'm pretty sure someone more savvy than me might have an opinion. Now to test it a couple of more times. If anyone else is getting hit with the disconnect on iTunes, at least try that.

Okay, I followed your process of removing higher data apps. First off, only 5 or 6 apps were reporting any data at all, I turned those off and left the others alone. The backup went off without a hitch and took roughly half an hour to complete. The formerly data-less apps now suddenly had some when I went and checked and the backup itself was larger than it has been in some time (22g or so). I kept adding more and more of the ones I shut off and kept being able to back up until I hit a snag after adding one that had several hundred more mb's than the rest... the Wikipedia app. I turned the Wikipedia tab to "off" again, and tried to run another back up... hung up once, tried again, went through fine. Now obviously, this may not be the offending app for everyone, but it seems to be the case for me and I would recommend those having the back up issue, if they have that app, try turning it off, or at least aim for the ones that seem drastically larger than the rest. I won't know until when I wake up tomorrow whether or not it solved the automatic backup issue, but I'm at least back on track enough that I can get a backup if needed, and losing a back up on the offending app will not really affect me at all, worst case scenario. Thanks for your help.

Interestingly enough, I am currently on vacation out of the country and so I wasn't messing with iCloud backup. However, I went to look and it automatically backed itself up yesterday and the day before. However, I just went to try an iTunes backup and I got the iPhone disconnected error. A reset of the phone fixed that, but I can't trust the backups currently. Backups are so messed up right now, it's not even funny. I don't want to wipe my phone and try a restore to see if that works because of the fact that backups are simply not trustworthy currently. Anyone else have their iCloud backup randomly start working?
