iCloud Backup Broken After iOS 9 Upgrade

iCloud Backup on both my iPhone and iPad have been working fine for years until I upgraded to iOS 9. After the upgrade it said my latest backup was "Never". When I pressed "Backup Now" the progress bar flashed quickly then went back to saying my latest backup was "Never" (no error messages).

I decided to try turning iCloud Backup off and back on again. When I try to turn in on it says "iCloud Backup Failed. There was a problem enabling iCloud Backup.".

Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix?

iPhone 6, iOS 9

I have this problem too immediately after updating my iPad mini retina (model ME280LL/A) after upgrading to iOS 9.

previous version was 8.4.1

I have just completed a backup before the upgrade.

guess I better not update any of my other iDevices?

This is an major problem.

See this is insane that you had to go through all of this! I am in the same boat (sort of) as far as ever since ios 9 the icloud backup never works as it used to. Ios 8 it backed up every single day like clockwork at exactly 24 hours. The device now backs up maybe once or twice a week. It needs to be on the charger for at least 10 hours when it actually does backup. I've tried everything suggested in this forum and it doesn't work. The problem is obviously ios 9 but apple refuses to acknowledge the problem and refuses to fix it. Nothing should be broken for 6 months. A company like apple should have had this fixed with the first update once it realized there was a problem

Trust me, I don't dispute that at all. I was ready to give up and go elsewhere, but that'd mean Android and no thanks. I'll go sans phone long before then. However, it seems like there may have some issue with encryption or something along those lines. The iCloud data is encrypted and I wonder if changing my password forced the system to re-encrypt everything with a new key fixing my backups. I'm about to speak with a Senior Advisor at Apple to let them know how I fixed mine and maybe they'll look at the account to see what happened. Hopefully it will help fix it for some people, because I know I have been beyond frustrated while trying to get this figured out.

I am on 9.2.1. As for the exact step, it's hard to say because I've spent weeks trying a plethora of different things. I'm not exactly sure what combination of things made it work, but I know it finally worked after I changed my iCloud password. Before I finally got it to work, I had tried backing up with all I selected, wiped my phone and did a DFU restore, deleted all app data in my iCloud except for my photos and other device backups, restored a stripped down backup with only messages, voicemails, and watch/activity data. Like I said, the password change is what eventually fixed it for me. I can't say that will fix it for everyone but I had noticed each time I restored my device, the first time I went to the iCloud settings, it'd say I need to update my password and ask me to re-enter it. That's what led me to believe there was something corrupted related to my password. Do you have this happen to you? Or have you not tried a wipe and restore?

Yes, I did reset my phone and restore it from a previously saved backup (after following the steps outlined in this thread). Unfortunately, that did not seem to fix the problem so I continued searching for a solution and came across this thread. I then took Fiestaman's advice and applied a password change to my Apple ID and that seemed to do the trick. I was able to then backup to iCloud for the first time in weeks.
