Apple TV keeps crashing NON-STOP!!!

We use Apple TV for all our TV watching in all rooms. We bought them at separate times, but they are the same model. We have Apple TV Software 6.2.1 and Resolution 720p.

Our Netflix and Hulu keeps crashing 3-4 times per show, and our music app crashes when playing songs, whether I am streaming it using Airplay from my iPhone or using the AppleTV app.

Our Apple TV just crashes and crashes and crashes!!!!! YES! I have restarted the Apple TV devices. YES! I have unplugged the modem and router and plugged them back in (in the proper sequence). YES! Our wifi speed is fast enough: over 60 Mbs download & 15 Mbs upload. YES! I have reset our ALL of our Apple TV devices to factory settings and set them back up again as new. I have done ALL of the usual advice for fixing the problem.

We are avid Apple fans but are getting sick of the constant crashing. We can't get through one show without having it crash at least once.

I have been having the exact same problem for months now. It makes Apple TV unusable. Only programs that work without resetting are items bought from the Apple store. I have the second generation Apple TV and I have tried everything, Even bought new cables and tried new ports. The only way I can watch anything non-Apple related is to stream it from my phone to Apple TV.

It's so bad now that I'm going to stop using Apple TV for anything other than Apple Movies and TV Shows. I'm even having issues streaming to it from my phone via AirPlay. I can't play a single thing without it breaking at some point and the issue seems to be the AirPlay connection. It's very frustrating and very un Apple like.

There are several recent posts on the internet as well as Apple's discussion pages regarding random reboots when attempting to view Netflix and/or Hulu on the AppleTV2. I started having the same problem about 3 weeks ago with Netflix (I don't use Hulu). I suspect that something changed with Apple's servers, or perhaps there was a bad update pushed by Apple (it does happen from time to time). In any case, my work around has been to stream Netflix content from my iPad (via the Netflix app) to my AppleTV2. It works, but it is not a solution.

Has anyone experienced this issue with an AppleTV3?

I have tried replacing the cables and trying new ports on the TV. I have also manually restarted my router and tested the speed which was normal. It also happens on other stations besides Hulu and Netflix. I have the same problem on PBS and Smithsonian, as well as others, when watching via Apple TV. The only shows that work are the ones available from the Apple store. I was planning on buying the new AppleTV this when it is released but not if it is going to have these same issues.

The DNS was already set to auto. The signal strength is fine. I cannot try another network but I will try the ethernet. Although, if it was a problem with the network or signal, I would be having the same issue on programs bought via Apple TV. AS I said before, the only time I do not get disconnected is when watching TV shows or movies I have purchased from Apple. Anything else (Netflix, Hulu, etc...) gets disconnected often. I also use Chromecast on my TV in the upstairs bedroom, which is about 20-30 feet from the router downstairs, and it has never disconnected.

I have had the same issue for months now. As the original post describes, I have restored back to factory settings. There are many instances of this occurring on 2nd Gen Apple TVs. I do not believe this is a connection issue as some may suggest. This is clearly either a software issue (unlikely or it would affect more folks) or a hardware issue (more likely due to a bad batch of product). It seems as though the "simple" answer from those on the forums and/or Apple is to just restore but that is not successful. There needs to be a deeper resolution to this issue.

I appreciate the response but that does not seem like a logical reply. To say that it is related to network issues is a bit outrageous. If there were network issues, the system should quit the app, there is no logical reason for the entire piece of hardware to restart. As you mentioned above, it is extremely unlikely if not completely unrelated to software. I do not think it is network related as many people have this issue from all around the world. This has to be a hardware issue. There is no other way to explain it. While i understand your helpful advise of diagnosing the network, there is no way that it would affect one piece of hardware out of a bunch and not be the actual hardware itself. Please avoid suggesting that to us again on this thread.

Yes, A network issue can impact one device, there are many variables to consider and I have diagnosed such causes in the past with other users. This is a support forum so of course there will be posts of this nature, but that doesn't automatically mean it's the hardware. If you want to verify that it's hardware related I already stated you can properly troubleshoot your network to, test on another network and/or take it to Apple to be diagnosed.
