After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?

No problem Rontu2, the list of reports have also been forwarded to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ as well as to our national news company in the UK at haveyoursay@bbc.co.uk.

I would encourage other members within this forum to do the same with additional reports they come across that do not appear in the above list; notify the national news media with the reports in your countries wherever in the world you are about this 'MAJOR' issue. The higher the participating numbers the higher the chances of seeing positive results from Apple.

We need to start channeling our energies that are currently fuelling our 'frustrations' towards ramping up national media momentum which 'pressurises' Apple to engage their gears, if they haven't already done so, to start working on a resolution.

My company uses a fleet of 12 iPhone 6's all running iOS 9.0.2 with the same POP issues.

Thanks Jaymlee for posting these articles !

Good to see that more media orgs are picking up on this issue now.

I guess we are still not sure if this is a 'feature' or a bug, but it definitely seems to be unwanted by many users.

I have not gone to the 3rd party mail application yet, but might look into it given how long this situation seems to be dragging on. Not sure when the next iOS patch will be released or if it will even address this problem, so please keep sharing these updates everyone.

That's the exact right message - expanded exposure should move Apple to respond sooner rather than later. Either they will admit it was unintentional and they will fix it, or, they will acknowledge it was designed that way and will have to explain it. My guess is I am among a significant number ready to upgrade to iPhone 6S who are awaiting Apple's response. I've been reading about beta testing of iOS9.1 but have seen no mention of the POP3 mail issue. I have a written confirm from Apple on Sept 30 that the case no. they opened for me was submitted to Apple Engineering. To date have only radio silence.

Let's get something clear, this is not a feature of any shape or size. If it were then apple would have notified users during the upgrade process that their emails would mysteriously disappear into thin air, never to be seen again.

This is most definitely a very serious bug and one which has cost a lot of people the absolute loss of critical emails.

Shame on apple for not fully testing critical areas of their software.

It has been my experience that Apple does not always notify users before activating upgrades. When I upgraded to IOS 9 on my iPhone 6 my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard would not recognize my iPhone. I was compelled to upgrade to Mountain Lion in order to backup my phone on my computer. NO warning at all from Apple when this upgrade was posted for my phone. I did get a warning when I tried to update my iTunes on Snow Leopard but none for IOS 9! Also having same issues with email as stated before since upgrade to IOS9. The same issue has continued to IOS 9.0.2. Not sure Apple is concerned about this as when I took phone to Apple Genius Bar was told I needed to change to IMAP. When I asked at another session at the Genius Bar I was told to delete and reinstall my POP3 address. Both "Geniuses" said I was only one having this issue and there had been no Apple alerts regarding this problem with email deletions.

I certainly agree vwgolfman, this seems like a huge bug from my perspective.

Sounds like this has been a pretty big disruption for a lot of users. Franky if not for other users and these support venues I wouldn't even be equipped to have a work-around in place. But it seems like sometimes Apple thinks they know what is best for us, even tho we might not yet realize it.... So will be interested to see how / if this gets addressed in the next iOS patch !

Using POP with no issues prior to iOS9. Downloaded emails which have been read and sat in my inbox give the message that it had not been downloaded from the sever. Not all messages, just some. Not only older ot only newer emails, just what seems like a random few. However, ALL my emsils ate still on the mailserver as my iPad is not my primary device.

No. Apple will not relinquish their monopolistic ways to allow you to change a 3rd party app to be a default app, thus you cannot use the "Share" feature with other 3rd party apps. With IOS, you have to live with Apple's "my way or the highway" mentality. I have switched last week to using a 3rd party mail app (myMail). Having said that, I'm happier now than I was using Apple's troublesome mail app. Not a single mail (received or sent) has been lost since using myMail.

THis is strange. After installing and configuring myMail on my iPad, it never actually "recovered" my sent emails, in addition to any received emails that were already previously deleted by me from my main computer that had the "message cannot be downloaded from the server" error on them. They were lost forever. Unless you "CC'ed" yourself on all your "sent" email from your mobile device when using Apple mail, you will not be able to recover those emails.

What's strange? It can't recover what doesn't exist.

Oct 20, 2015 7:48 AM in response to Lawrence Finch

YOu misread/misunderstood my reply to LesfromK, Lawrence. What I said was "strange" was why Les stated he was able to recover his lost emails after installing/configuring myMail. I clearly expected that my lost emails from Apple mail would "not" be recovered. I just don't understand why Les stated "all" his messages were recovered after using myMail....that was the "strange" part about his post.
