After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?

I agree with carolinseattle on this. There is no way to be always connected via WiFi, and we don't all have large data plans. I don't use much data so I would only be squandering my money on increasing it again. In fact, I did up my data plan, just before a trip in July, as I was sure I'd need it for Google maps usage, which I did. When I was trying to read the email with my airline confirmation number on it, so I could check-in online using my iPhone, I was at a wedding reception in downtown Milwaukee the first weekend in October. I turned on my cellular data, after not being able to see the reservation and confirmation info using just my normal T-Mobile connection, as I could when I was connected via WiFi, but the email still didn't show me the body of the message, which, btw, was not an attachment. I could only see the paperclip icon and upon opening the email, got the message... not yet downloaded from the server. As I had previously been able to read it on my phone while connected to WiFi, several times in fact because I made sure I could see it all before leaving the hotel, it should have been downloaded to my iPhone and stayed there, but alas, this wasn't the case.

All my travel emails are on my @icloud.com or @me.com account, they and all my other email accounts are all IMAP, and the problem is there for me with all of them. I don't have any POP or POP3 email accounts, so it's not limited to POP accounts.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with how much memory is being allotted to email on our iPhones, yet there is no way to increase this, even if we have a ton of open memory, as I do. I don't keep much on my iPhone in terms of iTunes, photos, etc. so for me, there shouldn't be any reason why this is happening. Some say yes, but upon deleting everything on their iPhones or iPads and resetting them to new, the problem persists.

😠 Apple is STILL in the doghouse!!!

I am curious. Several people have stated in different discussions that they have talked to senior engineers at Apple and that Apple is aware of the problem. Yet we have seen nothing official from Apple acknowledging the issue. This issue has been in the forum for almost two months and is well documented in the press. Has anyone seen an official acknowledgment that this is a bug and when it will be fixed?

In the Forum, it states this discussion has been branched to another discussion. But I am not allowed access to the new discussion:

Can anyone access the new discussion?

That seems to be Apple's DNA not making public statements on a bug until they have a fix to release.

I too tried without success follow the discussion branched to another thread. Would be interested in anyone can comment on that.

That other discussion thread was taken down soon after a couple of contributors abused the privilege and turned it in to a vulgar rant at each other. Thanks to their selfishness and arrogance, the thread was terminated. Proof that Apple do monitor those discussions though.... I notice that Apple have another update in the works; no mention of email in any of the information I have read through

SSame for me - unauthorised access to the new discussion. Is this a clum attempt to close down the discussions threads?

if Apple doesn't sort this out shortly consumers will be asking for their money back for products which have been made useless by these blunders. I can no longer depend on recieving email on my iPad which makes it useless and not fit for purpose.

Apple does not monitor discussions; anyone with more that 150 points has a "report post" button that allows them to bring a post to the attention of the forum hosts, who then decide if it warrants action. The hosts are actually pretty liberal in what they allow. It's primarily personal attacks and rants that have no constructive content (or inappropriate language) that get get deleted. And discussions of hacking iOS.

There is no new discussion, and never has been. That link is a quirk of Jive, the platform that ASC runs on. If a post is removed from a discussion it is actually moved to a "hidden" thread (so it can be restored if the hosts are feeling gracious), and that link is to the alternate blocked thread. If you have sufficient privilege (meaning that you are an Apple employee) that link will work; otherwise it will not.

Have same/simliar problem, but not just emails with attachments. Don't delete messages on POP3 server from my phone but do from my PC, but Emails are staying on my PC. Seems IOS mail is no longer storing downloaded messages on phone (something to do with the earlier IOS bug where the mail memory usage was huge even when all mails had been deleted?). My solution is to download another mail app, has been difficult to find some that support POP3, currently trying AltaMail Go (free) but only supports one account, can pay for a professional version, and myMail (also free). Neither will get back any mails deleted off the server by another device, but will hopefully store downloaded mail on the phone. Bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted!

There is no question in my mind at this point that this nightmare is related to storage on the phone and the possible addition of programming to periodically clean up the phone. Someone's bright idea of a good thing--perhaps as someone else mentioned--to placate folks with smaller capacity Iphones. The storage for the email app fluctuates between 8 and 15mb but never gets any bigger. I have not deleted any emails from my phone since the last time I set up the phone as new and rebuilt a couple of my accounts and the storage for the app builds up, then drops. When it drops, I have a whole new batch of "This message as not been downloaded from the server" emails. I have a 64GB 6 Plus with nearly 47GB free, so there is no way it should be cleaning my phone looking for available storage. Contrast that with the messages app on my phone that currently has 205mb of stored messages! Go figure.

After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?
