After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?

Happy for you that all is ok with your mail.

Update: I deleted the mail account from iPad. Did a soft reset > reinstalled mail account as IMAP > deleted mail account > reinstalled as POP > deleted several messages individually > All OK with Trash bin, just the deleted messages > bulk deleted 6 messages and hey presto... Trash folder is full again of several hundred messages. Where is it getting this cache from? and how to get rid of it short of a complete reinstall on iPad?

@Ronald P. Regensburg many thanks, but as stated a couple of times, there is nothing on the server. The 'resurected' deleted mails only include those handled on the iPad and only go back to a certain date, every time it's the same mails & same date.

I've deleted the email account and set it back up again. Same result = delete all means the Trash folder gets repopulated. I've just deleted it again and gone to reinstall it - now all other 3 email accounts, including iCloud are duplicated.

Looks like I have to start from scratch, not even going to bother with a backup, cause I don't think it'll prove succesful.

Seriously, Apple - every single ******* OSX or IOS update - every single one for last 18 months!

There will not be any Christmas shopping with Apple for me!

Keep you posted.

Delete the account, REBOOT THE PHONE (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears), and add it back. If you add back an account that has just been deleted it reuses the database from the deleted account. Rebooting forces it to create a new database.

IOS 9.2 does not cure all of the issues we have with apple mail.

Here is but one example of an issue............

On several occasions I have received emails and not opened them but instead left-dragged to send them straight to the trash bin.

When I then visit the trash bin with a view to deleting said emails permanently and click on one of them to double-check whether I really do need it or not, apple mail does not display the content of the email but instead gives me the "not downloaded from server" message.

This should not happen.

The full content of the email should be displayed.

Usually, if I move the email back to the inbox and then click on it in the inbox the full contents of the email is displayed.

But not always. Sometimes I get the "not downloaded from server" message.

Again this should not happen.

The full content of the email should always be displayed.

Right,

I've just had an email from "Apple Support Communities Updates". It is this website emailing me to inform me that there has been a new message posted to this thread.

I left-dragged on it in my inbox without reading it first as I did not need to read the contents of the email.

I then went to my trash bin and clicked on the email.

It displays "This message has not been downloaded from the server".

This should not happen.

@ vwgolfman

By now I had a whole list of unread messages from "Apple Support Communities Updates". I left-dragged one to the Trash and it opened fine from the Trash mailbox. Dragged another one and and also that one opened fine from the Trash. Dragged a couple of unread messages and all of them open fine from the Trash Mailbox, including one that appears to have a PDF attached. The issue you experience is evidently not universal.

I smiled, having always done likewise until the iOS9 release. I should have stayed on iOS8.4.1 until the iOS9.2 release and for sure will never again repeat that blunder.

TThis doesn't happen to me at all. Unopened emails sent to the trash can be read fully in the trash box. No problem. I am using iOS 9.2 on an iPad Air bought 18 months ago.

the only annoying thing is the doubling of the first capital letter in a sentence at the start of a piece of text. After that it fails to auto correct to a single cap.

see above for examples... :-)

my next tablet will be an Android based unit - they are MUCH cheaper and a lot more reliable.

I can reproduce an issue I'm having with apple mail in IOS 9.2 every time and was wondering if others can test too?

I am running IOS 9.2 on an iPhone 6S+

All emails have been cleared out. i.e. none in my inbox, draft, sent items or deleted items.

I am running 3 x POP email accounts and 1 x IMAP account.

1) I create a new email on my phone and send it to one of the 3 POP email addresses.

It's only a simple email. Subject: "Test" and body "This is a test email".

2) I check my inbox half a minute later and the email arrives.

3) Either left-drag to immediately send the email to the trash bin OR click on the email to read it (it displays correctly at this stage) and then hit the trash bin icon to send it to the trash bin.

4) Next I select my trash bin icon and can see the email sitting there with the correct subject text but "This message has no content" in place of the body.

ISSUE!

When I click on the email once again the correct subject text is displayed but "This message has not been downloaded from the server" is displayed in place of the body.

ISSUE!

5) I then click the folder icon followed by the sent icon which should move the email to my sent items. The animation indicates that the email has been moved to my sent items.

If I then go to my sent items box the email has completely disappeared from the device. i.e. not in the sent items bin and no longer in the trash bin.

ISSUE!

I have recorded a video of this process using my iPad and could upload it somewhere but would have to remove/blur email addresses and I'm not sure how to do that.

I have noticed that there is still some bugginess to the updare. It is very hard to duplicate as it only happens occasionally and to the same email. Mounting an email in the trash using the swipe can sometimes lead to a complete message, a message indicating that it isn't formatted properly (it can be retrieved in full if put back in the inbox) and twice I got the dreaded message that it hasn't been downloaded.

I sent an email from my iCloud address to my pop account, read it, put it in the trash with the trash icon, and it became unreadable with the dreaded message. Then I moved it back to the inbox of the pop account where it reappeared in full. My put it back in the trash and it is still a whole message.

This all seems to work fine if you only put something in trash that you don't care about. However, sometimes I have accidentally swiped an email to trash. I will be more careful. This might be a hard but to fix.

This all happened on my iPad Air. I haven't tested my iPhone much.

After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?
