Not a good update

WHile the updated podcast app has some interesting new features, it is much harder to use. I was listening to one podcast but wanted to switch to a different one before finishing the one I was on. It took 8-10 tries to get the new one to play. Tapping on the new episode would give episode details Then hide them. Then give them, then hide them. Took forever to get it to play! Also, it is much harder to see which podcasts have I played episodes in the main my podcasts lists. I don't create podcast playlists and prefer to choose the next podcast after the one I'm listening to is done, but the badge app icons disappear for some unknown reason and I'm left trying to read the small light grey letters to see if I have I played episodes. This is not a good thing when driving. Also, the menu coloring is impossible to read when you are in some podcasts. Almost black letters on dark blue buttons? Who can read that???

"This version is an improvement. Users just need to work with it and figure out where everything is", speaking as an Apple fanboy, this is why people don't like Apple fanboys.

The new version is in no way an improvement. For anyone who actually used it with any regularity, it is patently much worse. it is pretty much broken in fact. I cannot make a custom playlist OF MY CHOOSING in any usable way. When I leave the app and comeback later there is no way to get back to where I was listening previously, (there is no player open), and I have to start playing a random podcast to access the up next menu. That is if it plays at all, instead of lagging out completely or crashing the app.

Perhaps we are just all holding it wrong.

Again. I do NOT WANT to use any play list. I do not want to line up my podcasts ahead of time. That option does Not work best for how I use this app. If it does dor you, wonderful. I am happy for you. but not everyone chooses to use the app in that way. The app is intended to have multiple options for how to use it to appeal to more people. If only one of those options works, then the app is broken... Even if it does work the way you actually use it.

The badge app icons for the individual podcasts disappear after you merely go in to look at the title of the episode that downloaded. the small, light grey words that are hard to see will still state how many unplaced episodes you have, but it is not easy to see at a glance. Many times when I am looking for episodes, I need to see them at a glance. I do not wish to go to the I played episodes list because it lists the podcasts in a different order. I have mine listed by category. If I am looking for a podcast to listen to, I generally goose by genre first. There are times when I want to listen to something cerebral and times when I need to listen to something lighter because I am not able to devote the attention I would need for something heavier. This is also a reason why playlists don't work for me. I need to be able to choose rah episode as I go.

When you tap on an episode to play it, it does not go into a now playing screen. It says on an episode summary screen. This is problematic because the volume on different podcasts varies significantly and my eardrums are not happy when an exceptionally loud episode comes on. Now, to change the volume, I have an extra step and am not able to change the volume as quickly.

There are MANY times when you tap on an episode and it will not play. Sometimes I have to close out the app completely and reopen it just to get it to play.

When you go to the home screen the app jumps back to the all I played screen rather than going back into where you last left off. This would be understandable if it happened only after you close out the whole app but it happens all the time. this makes the app more difficult to use.

The skip ahead or behind 15 seconds buttons are completely gone unless you lock your phone. I use these ALL the time to listen again to something I may have missed. you can manually scroll but that is difficult and not precise.

So, no. My complaints are not just a matter of getting used to something new. My complaints are about broken functionality and the fact that the app has actually become much less user friendly contrary to apple's general model. Oh and even after the software update to fix stability issues with wth app, it still crashes all the time. It never used to before ios9. So you cannot tell me that it's just a matter of getting used to a new UI. I never complain about that sort of thing. My complaints are about the functionality and the usability of this app.

I feel your pain. Nothing is more irritating these fanboy types who insist "there is no fire" while they themselves are actually engulfed in flame.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but it's broken and if I know Apple, it won't be fixed. They have decided that their customers are doing it wrong and they have forced a 'correction' on us. Same with the missing scroll bar arrows that have forced me to keep an Dell for work and a mac for play. Yes, it's ridiculous, but that's where we are.

I recommend downloading some third party apps and trying them till you find one that suits you best. I know, it was so simple and perfect before they 'fixed' it, but... I'm sorry, they do this kind of thing all the time, then are obstinate about fixing it. Save yourself the frustration, take your business to a third party.
