ios9 slide to upgrade lock problem - fix!!!

1. If you have ios7 DO NOT upgrade to ios9 - wait for the 9.01

2. If you made that mistake and trusted that after 9th big ios release apple learned something .... Ummm here are the steps to be bit smarter than entire genius organisation:

- unfortunately you have to factory restore your device 😟 ..... So unless you really really need your phone don't do it

- connect via USB to iTunes

- hard reset your phone

- iTunes will connect and as soon as its connected go and click factory reset (if you wait to long it will give you message about find my iphone)

- if all OK it will download ios9 to iTunes

- you can try to buckup your phone too your computer but for me it did not work 😟

- now it will reset your phone and load new system again

Important!!!!!! Once you have "hello" message:

- do not connect to internet

- do not enable GPS

- do not connect to icloud !!

- do not put the pass code !!

Once all done it will take you to home screen and you will be able to use your phone as normal. If you have a backup on your Mac iTunes now you can bring all back.

But remember even once you have your ios9 running do not setup a pass code and do not connect to icloud at any point of time (you can setup email etc via internet). Otherwise it will go back to the loop and you will have to do it all over again 😟

Thanks apple xoxo

Have fun guys and gals

And let's hope for new update 🙂

So, to follow up- I fixed mine..they key was MAKE SURE YOUR ITUNES IS THE MOST RECENT VERSION!!!!!!!!!!! After leaving it for 24 hours, it had only backed up my pictures, which was great though my contacts are gone, I gave up, took a deep breath and went through the restore process again, after the 5th time of going back to that stupid "upgrade to slide" screen. One of the others posters mentioned it as well, but I made sure Itunes was updated and the restore FINALLY worked! It upgraded me to 9, as I could never get back to 8, but that's ok...it works fine now.

Also I have noticed if you simply reset your phone it will go again into the "apple logo" load loop.

SO ..... Do not reset your phone once you upgraded. Just let it run all the time until we have new update. Otherwise you have to repeat the steps again and again ..... 🙂

Yes lilith72 you need the most recent version of iTunes. Sorry i didn't mentioned it.

Verity101 - when you are asked to enter passcode below you should have line saying - i want to continue without. Then it will ask you - are you sure - so you say yes, i don't need pass code.

I give up. It keeps crashing. Up to date iTunes. All apps updated. I only use very few apps. Typically safaribased apps, mail, and SMS. I ignore enything iCloud. Still it crashes. Randomly.

Today I was looking to see if any news or solution to the problem was available on Macworld and cultofmac. It crashed at cultofmac's homepage. So I have no "smart" phone (or phone at all) until I go home and spendt another two or more hours on recreating my phone. After having folowed all Apples instructions about backing up etc. Now I Again will lose several SMS messages. Maybe I should use my old iPhone 3G, with prepaid subscription and send the bill to Apple?

Having an unending row of Mac computers and iPhones/iPads from Macintosh SE20 to now, is seriously in jeopardy. I have not been this disappointed since I bought a Macintosh Color Classic!

See if you want to censure that or you want to aknowledge the problem, make an annoucement, to prevent more and more iPhone users ending in the same situation switching from IOS 7.1.4 to IOS 9.0

Thank you Proximity9 - your fix has worked for me.

I don't know if this will help anyone else, but I couldn't get through without entering a pass code - I had to put one in, I did not get the option to not have one. So I put one in, but nothing bad happened and my phone is now working.

Apple had told me yesterday that I had to wait for the 9.1 fix and that I had no other option, so once again - thank you.

My phone is now out of battery:

Infinite loop indeed!

I only say this to you (and others) as I am sure there is a wide variety of how well your approach will Work, depending on iPhone model, build, etc. For me it is a very shaky solution. I have had to factory reset several times.

The remark below that we have to wait for 9.1 (and not 9.0.1) is seriously alarming. I hope it is a misunderstanding. Otherwise it is arrogant to say the least. People migrating from IOS7 to IOS9 (having passed on the bulky and slow IOS8) seem to be unimportant to Apple.

My advice to everybody is to try to use applications like iMazing (newest IOS9 compatible version) to extract text messages (SMS), call log, and other stuff that is valuable but is not recoverable if your phone crashes and has to be reset. iMazing can export these data in CSV format and SMS in PDF if wanted. You can also extract Photos that way.

Do not go to sleep and hope everything is still ok in the morning.

Put your phone in to recovery mode and iTunes will restore. You need to disconnect your phone from the computer, close iTunes, and hold the power button down on your phone until it powers off (If it won't turn off, hold the home button and the power button down). after your phone turns off, hold down the home button while plugging the cable back in but don't let go of the home button until connect to itunes in on the phone screen. After several minutes, iTunes will open a window with an option to restore.

Try that, it worked for me.

No need to be sorry. Not you who have messed up thousands of iPhones. 😉

Other sources indicate that you should restore your iPhone to IOS8 8.1.4, and THEN update to ISO9.

I have found this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/ios9/comments/3l7nt8/slide_to_upgrade_freeze_iphone_5c/ and I have now successfully restored my iPhone to IOS8.4.1. I will personally not, upgrade to IOS9 until the first update to IOS9.0.1 from Apple. There might be other bugs that need fixing.

This is what I got out of skipping IOS8 originally. IOS8… Ironic.

I have been happily using my phone since the weekend with this fix but last night it appeared my good luck has come to an end. I plugged it in to charge it and the phone came up with a black loading screen with the Apple logo (not unusual in this state) but unlike it does usually it didn't come around again and was frozen on it for hours. I left it overnight and it was still frozen when I woke up 😟 I've done the steps again, restoring from itunes but alas it hasn't worked this time and it's just awful looping round the black loading screen 😢

I'm stunned there is still no fix for this?? It will be a week tomorrow since the update wrecked my phone and it would have been completely useless for 4 days, and if it wasn't for Proximity9 it probably would have been the full week. Why isn't this in mainstream news? I remember BBM going down for a few hours a year or so ago and it was headline news... Skype was down yesterday and it caused chaos (apparently.). Why has Apple leaving thousands of customers without usable phones not making the headlines? I feel if it was they would get a hurry on a bit more with a fix. I'm sure they are working hard on it but I find it hard to believe it should take this long.

I haven't had problems with apple in the past but having a cell phone that doesn't work for 3+ days is completely unacceptable. Furthermore, everything I see, or don't see, from Apple only reinforces my belief that they're trying to avoid this issue to prevent it from blowing up in their face.

How is it possible to let something as serious as this get into a release? Apple has lost all credibility with me over this.

Connected iPad to latest version of iTunes.

Backed up OK

Had this problem, I couldn’t restore the iPad from the back up.

iTunes wouldn't start the restore, as It wanted to have the find my device turned off on the iPad.

Couldn’t get to it on the iPad, as it was locked at the scroll to upgrade, catch 22.

What worked for me was going into DFU mode (Device firmware upgrade), which worked a treat.

THIS WIPES EVERYTHING !! This is okay if you have a backup which you can restore later.

It gives you a clean empty iPad.
These are the steps follow them exactly

Entering DFU Mode on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
Plug your device into your computer with a USB cable.
Turn off the device.
Hold the Power button for 3 seconds.
Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds.
Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button.
After about 15 seconds you will be alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode.
There will be a usb to device logo on screen
In iTunes you will see the device is in recovery mode.
Restore and update from iTunes, wait for 10 minutes.

All is now good

Once the iPad is set up you can load everything back in from iTunes.

Hope this helps
