All,

I had this issue as well, in a corporate environment.

The user had hundreds of subfolders and probably 10000 emails. Also had a yahoo and exchange inbox added. Furthermore, we control his device inbox using Airwatch third party tool.

I tried everything I found on the internet, including changing the language of the phone, nothing.

last thing I tried (its always the last thing isn't it 😉) was changed the days to synch from 'all' to only 1 day, opened the mail client, then closed again, changed it back to 'all' then opened the mail client again and bingoviola, the emails started to populate in the mail client search.

hope this helped someone.

Same issue on my iPad. It turns out that it is not entirely broken (i.e. does not work at all) but rather that it is severely handicapped since the iOS 9 updates.

Where it used to search immediately upon typing, it now requires the two steps of entering the term, then clicking the "Search for ...." that appears below the search box (others have pointed this out). Then it appears that the system goes to sleep - not indicating visually that the search is going on.

What happens is that WAY TOO LONG later you will finally see the result list - after it has apparently searched your entire mail history and collected each and every email into a list.

This is what happens when you disconnect a technical resource team from user experience experts, and this is what seems to happen with every major flaw in the new iOS. You let a technical team create something new at the expense of simplicity and usability; you sacrifice the WHY for the WHAT.

WHY do we use search in emails - more times than not to find an email that we remember somewhat recently we have received or written. WHAT do we get now? A technicians vision of the "best" search tool; one that delivers 100% of anything you might ever want to find, at the cost of timeliness and, frankly, usefulness.

Please Apple - get some business analysts and usability experts back into the development pool before you handicap your entire user base with new (and useless) updates!

I Had a problem FINDING the search function but it worked fine once I learned where it is tucked.

In the mail app you swipe down along the left column to show a search box which worked fine Automatically and fast.

Within accounts you can't access search until you open a folder.

HOWEVER that seems to come and go on different days and after closing and reopening the mail app.

I too am having the same issue. I have an MS Exchange Account that use to send and receive e-mail from my IPhone 5c. Until recently, I was able to search both my Inbox and Sent Items for e-mails which I know I have recently received or sent. Since I have been reading numerous user posts from people experiencing the same issue on their IPhone devices, this appears to be an Apple technical issue. However, when I contacted Apple Tech Support yesterday, the tech stated that she was unaware of any Apple technical related issues, and/or settings within the IPhone itself which would cause this search issue. Has anyone made any progress regarding this issue, or is it simply a matter of losing functionality following Apple's last OS update to 9.1?

Hello SgtBuck,

I understand how frustrating it can be to not be able to search for emails. In the Mail app, if you scroll up all the way to the top, right under where it says All Inboxes there should be a little bar that says Search. To search all inboxes, you'll want to tap on the Search Bar and type a keyword relating to the email.

I had the same issue. I deleted my Exchange account two or three times and still no search results.

Fix--General-->Reset-->Reset Network Settings, issue resolved.

If these steps don't fix your issue, delete Exchange account and add it back, before the sync completes, do "Reset Network Settings". I think the first fix should solve the the issue.

Hope this helps!

I have the same problem.

I enter a search term into the native iOS email client. It searches. Sometimes it takes a very long time to stop searching. But it doesn't return the correct results. It fails to catch emails that clearly contain my search terms. I have tried clicking both "Search within current mailbox" and "Search all mailboxes", but the search does not find the right hits for my search terms.
