News app not working in iOS 9

I upgraded both my iPhone 6 and iPad to iOS 9 yesterday. The news app works fine on my iPad but won't load on my iPhone. It gets stuck at the "Welcome to News" screen and appears to be constantly loading.

Try a forced restart: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the restart.

Thanks for this fix which solved the issue for me. I inherited the app with the iOS 9 update (UK) and having set up my "Topics", off which there were many, from the excellent choice, the App worked really well. I was/am really impressed and would rate it as possibly the best feature for my personal needs.

Ufortunately it stopped working on my iPad in that it just went to a non responsive white screen and froze for a while before crashing out. Strangely the problem did not manifest on my iPhone (maybe that was to come!).

I applied your fix on the iPad but note that there was a message saying:

What would you like to do with the previously synced iCloud News data on your iPad?

Keep on My iPad

Delete from My iPad

Cancel


in my ignorance I chose the delete option but on opening the News App I was greeted by the new use set up screen with all my chosen topics seemingly deleted. Without panicking (!!) I closed the the App down and repeated the process but chose the "Keep" option. On opening up the App my chosen topics were/are there. I do note that the iCloud setting seems to switch itself back on. The App however is still working but at least if the problem recurs, thanks to your help, I can now easily reset the App.


Again many thanks BUT a SOFTWARE FIX NEEDED FROM APPLE IN THE NEXT IOS UPDATE Please.

First of all check if there is an os update. I had 9.2 so I updated to os9.2.1.

Still could not start News.

Forced restart. Nothing.

Turned off News in icloud and chose not to sync with iphone.

This got me to a News setup screen.

Now News works. I have to find the news sources again. So it goes.

Not sure if the forced restart helped or if I forced restart after turning off News in icloud.

I went back to icloud just now and turned News back on and then back off and News worked each time.

What seems important is to update your os and turn off the sync with your iphone so you get to the "getting started" screen in News.

Looks like you will lose all of your saved news sources.

Hope this helps those of you who had troubles.
