No, of course it can't work, it uses the Google browser to open Books and so you're back to the same issue...Google Books in Safari and any other browser on iOS9 will not render the page at anything other than full zoom. The only exception is Puffin browser, but that brings with it the recently revealed security issues of Flash, and probably won't work anyway as Adobe phases Flash out. This fact seems to point to a Flash issue in Google Books, but to the contrary; Google Books comes up just fine in Safari on my iMac operating El Capitan on which I've uninstalled Flash. Apple just needs to heed its customers' complaints and get on with fixing browser operation In iOS9...and pronto...3549 views of this thread since it was opened on 20 Sept...TWO MONTHS AGO! Is there anyone from Apple reading this? C'mon!

A solution: go into Settings>Safari>Advanced and turn off Javascript. This gives you the whole page were 'preview' is available in Google Books. The view is much simplified, with no zoom or magnify buttons showing, and searching for a word will only find the first entry, so not terribly helpful in that regard. But at least you can read whole pages!

Holding the reload button reveals "Request Desktop Site", then clicking that loads the page as it would appear on a computer and shows the whole page. Or alternatively, pressing the share icon and scrolling the bottom line ("Add to Favourites", "Add Bookmark", ...) shows the same option, i.e. "Request Desktop Site", clicking of which produces the same effect.

HI Thomas3.14,

Thanks for a great idea, but alas, no that's not a solution.

Reloading for desktop view does get me to the page with the book title I'm looking for, but then when I go to 'Preview this book', or search for text in the book I get the mega-enlarged screen again. If I use 'desktop view' for that I just get back to the book cover thumbnail and description in desktop view. Your method doesn't allow previewing pages of the book. It's a javascript issue. Turning Java off in SafarI advanced preferences is the only fix I can find that works for previewing pages of a book.

google books for ios application is basically a disgrace (trying to be polite). 1st, it does not allow you to purchase new books. 2nd is constantly crashing, because of memory leaks and database/persistence issues. apple is very nice (mostly does it for us/customers) that it does allow ANY google applications in app store! actually this application should be retired until google fixes it and/or provide iBooks support for google books, which would be 10 billion times better. google is trying to show off how much better android is, when in fact, android is a poor clone (quite theft) of ios and inferior all the way (battery life time, aspect, consistency, safe application in app store, inferior applications in app store, un maintained and un controlled viruses all over, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. google should not be allowed to infect the ios world with google chrome, google books, google maps, google music and other inferior aberrations of such kind. on top of that, many decent software engineers, developers and programmers are literally distracted by the so called open / freedom coming from using inferior technologies (also quite theft) like java and accept to produce under price, exposing themselves to segregation, piracy, reverse engineering instead of getting superior jobs with us!
