Hey Barje

If you open your mail account

go to the top menu bar and press on mail

preferences ( and your accounts will open) I have IMAP inactive for some reason and also POP accounts for both emails

if you DON'T have IMAP click on your POP account that is shown there and highlight it.

then go to the menu bar and press MAILBOX

and at the bottom you will find REBUILD.

click on this and your emails will disappear for around 30 seconds

then your mail and attachments should work.....

(well fingers crossed mine came back.,

*if you have IMAP click on these also and at the top under account information , mailbox behaviours and advanced there is a little enable this account click this also and do the same for all accounts..... you may also have to add your passwords again.

hope this helps.

This has happened again last night (Saturday). I updated Wednesday to iOS 9.0.1 and everything was fine, i.e., recent emails with attachme were still there. This seems to be an ongoing problem--not necessarily related to the update itself.

I am now more than unhappy. Apple please do something. This has made my iOS devices (2 iPads and iPhone) worthless for email.

Another guess. This seems to be happening to everyone a lot at night. Could there be some connection with iOS 9 and Backups? I after I got people to resend lost emails I didn't Backup for a couple of days (hoping I might be able to recover more from previous Backups), and there wasn't any problem. Last night I had given up that hope and Backed Up. Now I'm missing emails with attachments again.

Now it has happened AGAIN! Messages I received less than 4 hours ago are GONE. I haven't done ANYTHING except read email and use the web--no deletes or backups. I am REALLY getting frustrated. My iPads are [were] my major interface to email and I can't use them. I had to go back to using my PC. This is a very serious problem! I am really surprised that isn't a much bigger public outcry. Obviously this is only a problem that Apple can fix--all of the other "fixes" are only potential "recovery" methods (none of which have worked for me).

The only way I have found to be able to access mail from my phone without losing it is to set Outlook on my computer to NOT delete items from the mail system server when downloading to PC. For my situation the mail is not lost on my iPhone until I download on my PC and remove from server. I switched to keep mail on server any only delete from server when I pernantly delete from my deleted items folder on Outlook on my PC. Not the best solution, but works for me for now. You can't recover lost emails / attachments, but I am not losing them anymore.

All Apple needs to do is give USERS the choice of keeping email and attachments resident on phone or on server. Taking this away without notice is inexcusable. I have regitered my comments with Apple support.

I lost all my received, sent, and draft emails from my iPhone and iPad after upgrade to ios 9. As suggested, I set my outlook to leave emails on the server. I have Comcast POP email. I took a flight soon after and my sent emails were not available in airplane mode (they always were with previous iOS versions.). They did return after we landed, but a few days everything was gone again. So we're not just losing all the emails but we're losing emails that were sent even after asking to leave them on the server.

So the sent emails must be on a different server somewhere, and I'm not sure where.

I hope Apple can fix this pronto!
