Recent upgrade to iOS 9 - Old videos taken in portrait mode show in landscape mode (crop/zoom in effect)

Hi guys,

I recently upgraded my phone from iOS 8.3 to iOS 9 on my iPhone 5S and I have this irritating bug:

Videos taken with my old iPhones (3GS and 4S) in portrait mode are now showing in landscape mode while holding the phone vertically.

The videos now look cropped/zoomed in with no possibility to zoom out.

However, when editing the old video using the Edit function, the video shows up in portrait mode as it should be.

For videos taken in portrait mode on my iPhone 5S, there is no such issue.

Do you guys have the same issue? Is there any way to fix it?

Thanks!

I'm also experiencing this issue. All my portrait videos from my original iPhone + my iPhone 4S are cropped and zoomed as landscape on my iPhone 6 after updating to iOS 9. Issue still remains in 9.1 too.

I discovered that by clicking EDIT, then trimming off just a smidge of video, then clicking DONE and re-saving the video will I see the video as portrait again.

yeah the ug is still there in 9.3, however there is a workaround if you must see the video on your phone.. jus edit the video and slightly shorten one end of it, save it as a new clip and you're done. This is not how it should be however. If you save your photos and video to iCloud, the videos are fine there. Log in to iCloud.com, find your video and play it, it'll be fine. Download it and it'll play fine. If you use the Photos app on a Mac, the video will also be fine there. Rest assured, the videos aren't ruined, you're just unable to view them correctly on the iPhone.

I Just found this thread after an unsuccessful attempt to ask one of Apple's chat support people to fix this same problem. I am on the most recent iOS 9.3.2 and it's quite frustrating that this hasn't been fixed yet. Coincidentally like some of you above, my son was born in 2013 and all his baby videos show just his torso. Ugh.

After almost a year of watching cropped baby videos with my kids faces cut off I stumbled onto this page.

Worked perfectly........thank you sooo much!!!

What also worked for me was

Selecting all videos affected and instead if texting or emailing I just

duplicated all videos then erased the first of each

dduplicate. Worked like a charm

Brilliant!

This has been bugging me since I changed from iphone 5 to SE

When I copied portrait-shot videos to the new phone they were in landscape and obviously far smaller.

The mistake is copying them to "Videos"

I only had to follow Step 1 of your answer and that solved the problem-- i.e. sync the videos into your "Photos" in Itunes and they play perfectly in the mode they were shot in!

Thank you dc_space !
