Problems with mail in iOS 9

I have updated my iPad generation 4 to iOS 9. First the iPad froze when it updated to the OS, I had to press and hold down both buttons for a few seconds in order to restart the iPad.

I have now discovered that the contents of all of my email are missing, the emails are still there but they lack content, it only says "The letter has not been downloaded from the server." The contents of the e-mail is visible the first time I open them, but the next time the content is gone.

How do I recover the contents of my email?

Yes, because it is *so* much more important to include funny-face-characters than it is to actually be able to read the messages you get!

I've adapted to this mess by flagging messages to deal with later -- at least I can then see which ones they are (even if they're days or weeks old); it's more of a reference/reminder/to-do list with hints than actual messages so it's not completely useless when I get to my PC to take care of things. Most of them do still display the preview lines, which I upped from 2 to 6 since this whole fiasco started.

It's only a few years back that I didn't do *any* mail-by-mobile. Apple is getting me out of the habit as I return to the old "do it at my desk" routine, albeit with a brief look-ahead at what's in store from my iphone.

I have seen this problem on an email in my out box, leads me to the conclusion it's a bug in the email program.

From the posts here, it seems to be limited to Pop accounts. Pop can only talk to one device at once and often I get a message to say, unable to get emails as it's in use on another device. So I'm thinking could it be something to do with using pop accounts on multiple devices and the way the mail program responds.

Is there anybody here that has the problem and only acesses their emails from one device?

Downloading emails in quick succession onto two iPads. on iPad 1 the 25 emails had the correct first couple of lines preview in the left hand panel, but the message in the right panel had:This message has not been downloaded from the sever. On iPad 2 the left hand preview had This message has no content, on all messages downloaded. Strange definitely not right.

The "message not downloaded from server" body text issue on POP mail is a real nightmare and talking with AppleCare and a Genius Bar rep all who call this problem an "emerging issue" feels cavalier but certainly not to the degree it deserves.

I CANT GET MY EMAIL WHEN AWAY FROM A COMPUTER!

TThis is not an emerging issue, it's killing my ability to communicate with clients, staff, etc.

rant aside.

in addition to this POP issue, I note that for IMAP gmail, there's nowhere to input my username and password in Settings > Mail, etc. > gmail account. I can on OSX email account configuration. as a result I can't get IMAP gmail mail on my mobile devices.

so between my POP accounts and IMAP Gmail accounts, Apple mobile devices are not functional or reliable in IOS 9

and while I'm at it - why hasn't Apple fixed the text input bug(s) in Discussiins fields so that letters capitalize and the first character on a new line doesn't repeat as in TThis - 4 paragraphs above.

(sorry for the thread jump)

Agree it's not an emerging issue - it's an issue that's been there since IOS9 was released. (Maybe emerging means something different in Apple lingo') However, it certainly seems these days that Apple doesn't listen to customer feedback, but only responds to issues when the media get hold of them.

As far as your gmail IMAP account...Settings > Mail > Add Account - displays popup list with different type of mail accounts - Google is listed and then prompts for Username & Password. Alternatively "other" at the bottom of the list lets you add an account manually.

PPerhaps the Apple-dictionary definition of "emerging" is one of noise becoming loud enough that Apple.com can no longer ignore it. Too many people have been complaining of consistently broken IMAP and POP client-server communications / broken mail-clients, in iOS 9.x, for it to be considered an "unlucky" consequence of a failed (or partially failed) iOS upgrade on their iThings.

WHere those that look or choose to participate in discussion within the "unmonitored" Apple support forums, we should also consider the high number of disappointed users that either give-up, or simply live with sub-standard software. If we had the ability to return our devices to a less feature-rich, but working, version of iOS ( such as, cough, 7.x), many would do so if only to have a reliable portable communication tool.

MAny of us love the potential of the Apple ecosystem - and have invested heavily in multiple devices - but we're rapidly falling out of love and losing patience.

determiner & pronoun

more than two but not many.

That seems about right.
