My 2011 iMac won't wake from sleep mode
Hi all
I've recently had problems waking my iMac from sleep mode. This appears to happen more often when the sleep period is prolonged, ie. 2+ hours. I can't even wake the computer using a brief press on the power button, I have to hold in the power button and force the Mac to shut down and then restart it. This is obviously not doing the Mac any good so I would really like to know what's causing this problem suddenly (ironically, this problem appeared to coincide with my extended warranty expiring!!).
I have recently reset the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM during a support call to Apple for another long-term ongoing issue I've had since upgrading to Yosemite, so I know that's been done and presumably shouldn't need doing again.
I also read that in the past, this problem has been experienced by people using a powered hub - I had a hub connected which I've now disconnected but the problem is still happening.
I've also booted into Safe Mode and run disk utility, verify disk permissions and no problems were reported.
The iMac is a mid-2011 21.5", running Yosemite 10.10.5 with 8GB of RAM and 500GB HDD of which there is 271GB free space. I have a WD 1TB external HDD set up as a Time Machine backup connected via FireWire.
I would really appreciate some help with this - thanks in advance.
