My 2011 iMac won't wake from sleep mode

Hi all

I've recently had problems waking my iMac from sleep mode. This appears to happen more often when the sleep period is prolonged, ie. 2+ hours. I can't even wake the computer using a brief press on the power button, I have to hold in the power button and force the Mac to shut down and then restart it. This is obviously not doing the Mac any good so I would really like to know what's causing this problem suddenly (ironically, this problem appeared to coincide with my extended warranty expiring!!).

I have recently reset the SMC, PRAM and NVRAM during a support call to Apple for another long-term ongoing issue I've had since upgrading to Yosemite, so I know that's been done and presumably shouldn't need doing again.

I also read that in the past, this problem has been experienced by people using a powered hub - I had a hub connected which I've now disconnected but the problem is still happening.

I've also booted into Safe Mode and run disk utility, verify disk permissions and no problems were reported.

The iMac is a mid-2011 21.5", running Yosemite 10.10.5 with 8GB of RAM and 500GB HDD of which there is 271GB free space. I have a WD 1TB external HDD set up as a Time Machine backup connected via FireWire.

I would really appreciate some help with this - thanks in advance.

Hi

Thanks for responding. Where does it say that I have installed anti-virus software? The only AV I have is ClamXav but I can't see that on the report. I can certainly uninstall it but I've had that on the system for over 2 years and it has never caused a problem so far. Also, I deliberately did not install any of the Western Digital software that came with my drive - I do see references to WD software but it is in my Documents/Manuals folder and is not actually installed. Do I need to delete the documents? I do have Ad Block Plus on the computer because the ads on websites are incredibly annoying and really slow down my internet usage - does this software really cause problems and is there no other way round ads on websites?

Thanks again!!

Donna

Your report indicates you have com.trusteer.rapport.rapportd.plist . this indicates some type of security software has been installed. ClamXav is harmless but also useless too. Remove the WD software from your system. AdBlockPlus is okay, just keep it up-to-date. That should be a Safari extension, check your extensions to see they are up-to-date.

Rapport is a security software application, which my bank insists on use of as it prevents key logging info being collected. I do a lot of online banking and therefore this, I believe, is essential for security.

As far as I'm aware, the WD software is not actually 'installed', but I can copy the files to a disk and remove them from the HD. Are you suggesting that I should do this?

Are these the only things that you can see which might cause the problem with the iMac not waking??

Thanks!

Donna
