Mailboxes and iOS9 issue

Hi,

Last week I updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9 and started having the following problem with my primary POP account.

Will download email (entire email, including attachments) to my phone and at some point then download the same email to my computer (MBP, MS Outlook). Outlook is set to delete messages from the mail server once downloaded to my computer. I have been doing this since my first iPhone (March 2011) and have never had a problem until last week.

After updating the iOS, the content of the messages that I have left on my phone disappear within a couple of hours of being downloaded to my computer. I get the following message: This message has not been downloaded from the server. I have checked the mailbox account settings and nothing seems to have been changed from where they where prior to the update.

This problem only shows up on emails left on my phone from the last 30 days or so. I have earlier messages from March, 2015 and before that the contents have not been deleted. Very weird and frustrating.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks.

iPhone 6, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

This is ridiculous. I have resent e-mails to myself that had the error of "This message has not been downloaded from the server", they show up with the entire e-mail message for a day then I go back in the next day and receive that error. I have important e-mails that I save on my phone for traveling but now they are rendered useless. I have looked all over the place for a fix but all I find are IMAP/POP suggestions. I didn't change a single setting in my mail app yet once I upgraded to IOS 9 this issue started.

I've just updated to iOS 9.2. List of fixes can be found here: iOS 9.0 - 9.2. That includes the follow statement:

Fixing an issue that caused mail attachments to be inaccessible for some users with POP email accounts

Will be interesting to see if Apple has fixed the original problem. Have my fingers crossed but based on the last update am not very hopefully.

Happy holidays!

Hello all. I am also experiencing this with my wife. Her Apple MacBook is behaving badly but this is what I can add.

Apple mail does not offer the same as outlook at this time so we cannot use that. Maybe later it will.

I am in IT. Do not laugh too hard at what I tell you and my experience.

Apple and Rogers (here in Ontario, Canada) have tried to help me but can only go so far because of the licensing and support agreements and what they are allowed to support. I do NOT have access to Apple and Rogers servers so this is why I need their help.

My wife has multiple machines - WINDOWS and 1 apple MacBook and 1 iPhone.

POP3 and IMAP are mail transfer protocols.

POP3 emails are emails that basically you offload to your client device phone or computer. SO if you download a pop3 message on your phone, you probably do not see it again on your computer (if you have it set this way), and if you do then you have to know that you have already READ IT ALREADY! It is a real pain. If you also set one part of it to DELETE EMAILS off server then basically for existing accounts you cannot see them again.

If you reload from new then you usually can get ALL emails coming back from the start you started your email account.

We are talking about PAID accounts. WHEN ONE SENDS from one computer, this email does NOT appear on say the same persons phone.

IMAP are emails you have read and across ALL machines you have it setup this way. So say you read it on your phone. Then you walk to your computer with the same IMAP setup, then your computer will say you READ IT ALREADY and you don't have to re read it or answer it again. Conveniently if I setup a new machine, all emails are again downloaded but as READ since they have been read. I don't have a wife screaming at me that she has read all 30,000 emails and why does she have to read again. WHEN ONE SENDS from the computer, the phone device setup similarly is supposed to show the SENT message already! It is like someone sent the same message twice!

That is why IMAP was made - to take care of multiple email accounts for the same account.

http://searchexchange.techtarget.com/definition/IMAP IS a starting resource if you want to read about it. I think IMAP is the better way to go as well as I have multiple devices and it works mostly well.

For those who do not want their family members to read your email, I recommend that you setup new emails for them.

IF you are a parent who needs or wants to keep an eye on your kids email, buy them a cheap domain with email then you control everything.

Back to this disappearing emails.

So I have for my wife 2 or 3 windows machines, XP, windows 7 etc and they have downloaded the IMAP emails fine no problem.

I get Rogers error messages every once in a while but it has to do the with server end at Rogers. But it works no email disappearing.

WHEN I LOAD the same settings for Apple IOS9 and Microsoft Office Mac 2011 I have issues.

Basically I start a new account on the Apple Mac. I load in office mac 2011 and all apple updates.

Then I setup the account for Outlook. The emails start to pour in.Thousands. It takes 1 or 2 days to get them all.

Even current up to the minute emails appear !!! Much to my wife's cheerful glee.

Then after the 1 or 2 days whether we shut off the machine or leave it on, THE EMAILS disappear. All of them -- sent, inbox everything.

But they were there as we downloaded. It seems to be when we are all completed and later BUT not including to the very short time after we have completed. Confusing? I am confused too.

They do stay there for a few hours or so but then all just swoop disappear.

AND I have done this around 3 or 4 times, even deleting OUTLOOK profiles on the apple mac.

I thought I was crazy the first couple of times but then I watched it carefully documenting my steps and not letting any user on. They disappear themselves. but they are there as I make a new profile and they appear, THEN disapper again. Her emails are blank. Even current emails do not appear.

I did not have this issue with pre IOS9. I cannot believe that IOS9 could have this effect but I have been battling this with for over 6 months at least now and I have started to give up on external vendors for advice.

For those of you with pop3 emails disappearing and once you recreate your email account it all works perfectly. I see that. But for the IMAP guys out there this is not working.

What do you guys think? Any input on the IMAP and emails disappearing? thanks danny

It's infuriating!

I just updated to a new computer with 10.8.5 on it... this will be my last, since after that every OS is ugly as sin.

This one I can barely see as it is they have removed scroll bars, colors in mail, etc... misery!

Feel like I'm using a cheap PC and not a beautiful Mac that I paid $3000 for.

Anyway, I just put in one email address and it spewed all sorts of junk under the account listing.

What will happen when I add 49 more?

I do NOT want Comcast controlling my email as it will erase the mail when I erase it from one device when I DO NOT want that to happen!

I have tried to do a POP acct with no luck so I will try this.
