After ios 9 upgrade keyboard freezes and lags in every app

The iPhone itself isn't frozen, I can double click and exit any app, I can switch apps, but after the upgrade, I cannot type anything without the keyboard freezing terribly. The phone is unusable to type emails, respond to text, enter web pages or anything involving the keyboard. I have soft reset the phone and rebooted several times. I am not using any third party keyboards. I have disabled predictive text, no changes. If you type on the keyboard, it will slowly add the text youre typing long after you complete pushing the buttons.

This is occurring on my iPhone 6 (ios 9).

I started having this problem in iOS 10 on both my iPhone 7 and iPad Air 2. I was hopeful iOS 11 would fix the problem, but, alas, it persisted after I upgraded both devices yesterday. I decided to try @Stix_UK suggestion and, so far, it has worked. I disabled iCloud Drive in the Settings app. All typing/keyboard issues went away. I have since turned iCloud Drive back on and, so far, the issue has not returned. I'll update after some time has passed in case it comes back.

Based on your turning off iCloud services, I was able to reduce the typing lag on my iPad. I don't have an iPhone. However, I am unsure of how far I should go with this: turning off icloud for mail, contacts, and calendars had an effect, but it prompts me about "previously synced iCloud _____" for reminders, safari, notes, and news. I don't know what I will be losing if I do this.

Anyway, this iPad is only a websurfing device and I use web-based email 99% of the time so I think I will kill "news" as it is probably useless. Safari probably should stay. BUT I don't really know what the *&!* "iCloud" is for, anyway? I suppose I should be able to shut it down b/c it's a detriment to performance and then learn how to use it smartly to back everything up every once in a while. Fortunately, this isn't my lifeline to the world, a cellular device, or my main household computer... Any advice on how to use iCloud, whatever the *&!* it is, smartly?

I started having this problem with 10.02 (it happened suddenly on a quiet Sunday morning) and remains after 10.1 update. Only affecting my iPhone 6. 😟

Tried most of the fixes here but the one that seems to be holding and working is to turn off iCloud drive. That's a pain in the proverbial as I now have to go back to emailing stuff to myself to transfer docs iPhone - iPad but at least I can type on my phone again

im having the same problem, ive been to the apple shop and they have replaced the phones and the problem is still happening, ive stopped sending text messages its pointless, Apple seem to be ignoring the problems. They have asked me to do a full restore as a new phone again, ive done this already and input my contacts one at a time, i have 8000 contacts due to work how is this ever going to work. Apple please spend soem of the billions you have squirrled away on sorting this out
