My text message field have a grey bubble with 0:00

(You have to press down briefly in the text field for the select/paste option to come up.)

This issue was fixed in iOS 9.1 which is now available.

Go to settings, messages and turn on character count that fixes it

The reason the text line 'greys out' is because you have been using voice record and didn't cancel it. The 0:00 in the text line is the length of time you've tried to record.

Press and hold the microphone icon next to the text line and it should disappear. If it doesn't, try to record something for a few seconds and then release the microphone icon and then press delete. this should be fixed now but if it doesn't then your problems are deep rooted and you'll have to try the other alternatives.
