iPad won't load Google in Safari after iOS9.0.1 upgrade

I upgraded to iOS 9.0.1 today and now Safari gives me the message that it "cannot open the page because it could not establish a secure connection to the server". I am in the UK and it is Google.co.uk that normally opens. However, I can't open Google.com either, because it switches automatically to the .co.uk site and give the message above again.

This is only happening on my iPad Mini. On my iMac Safari opens Google just fine. And on my iPhone6, which was upgraded to iOS 9.0.0 a couple of days ago, Google loads in Safari perfectly too.

I have cleared all website data from the iPad Mini (via Settings), restarted the iPad several times, and I have rebooted my wifi network server. None of this has made any difference.

On my iPad, every other site I have tried loads without any problem. The issue is just between Safari and Google.

Any ideas?

Same issue - I have scoured the web looking for options - checked restrictions, reset network data, tried DNS of 8.8.8.8, cleared cash -even tried replacing safari with chrome -but I cant get youtube videos to work (but some advertisements do!)

Its interesting my ipod touch has this issue, but my iphone 6 does not (even when I turn off cellular data and only use wifi -same wifi my ipod is on) - the ipod can't get to https://google.com or youtube.

I suspect it is an SSL/secure connection issue .. since i can browse insecure (http, but not https) sites.. did something at Google change?? It seems to happen on and old ipad 2, that worked fine 'the other day'.. and I have not done an OS upgrade... its even an issue on an older ipad touch that was working with youtube yesterday -and now today same problem.

So to recap:

ipod touch with IOS 9.0.1:

cant access google.com (via SSL)

can't play any youtube vidoes.

same issue on an older IPAD (Ios 6 I think?) and IPOD touch

Iphone 6 with cellular data turned off, but same wifi on (IOS 9.0 -I haven't upgraded) - all works fine.

I have the same issue with my ipad 3 (or 4? - an older model anyway!). It's running IOS 7.0.4, and was fine yesterday, but today (25/9/2015) it suddenly can't connect to google search engine, YouTube or google earth. Hugely frustrating! I get the message "Safari cannot open the page because it cannot establish a secure connection to the server". My other devices (android phone and windows PC) work fine.

I haven't run any updates, BUT yesterday I went onto the Apple website to look up information about official certified charging cables, and while on there I was asked for my apple password twice.....so something was shared from the Apple website onto my ipad. Presumably all those of you who have downloaded IOS 9 must have also accessed the Apple site and had to provide their passwords - is it possible that some bug has passed from the Apple site onto our devices?

Hi Folks;

Weird thing. Got up this morning and found the same problem with my IPad 2 and IPhone 4. Strange thing is they both worked last night before I went to bed and I've done no upgrades to either (can no longer get an upgrade for the phone).

Just like everyone else has found, everything else that access the web is fine Yahoo, Bing, etc, but I cannot get either device to access Google.

Like the rest of you, hanging out for some advice from Apple.

Even weirder, wife just woke and started using her IPad 3 and everything working fine.

I think TOMP2 is onto something with the Gmail connection. I have Gmail account access on both my IPad and IPhone (Safari not working) but the wife doesn't and she has no problems on her IPad.

Hi All,

I too have had issues connecting to the internet via Safari since downloading IOS 9.0.1 to my Iphone. My Safari default search engine is Google. After trying several suggestions on the web that did not resolve this issue I resorted to bypassing Safari by installing Firefox which has Yahoo as its default search engine and everything was working great - until I changed the default search engine in Firefox to Google and then experienced exactly the same problem trying to get onto the web when using Safari. Once I switched back to Yahoo in Firefox everything is working as it should be.

Hence it is apparent that there exists an incompatibility between the Iphone and Google in the new IOS9. My further research indicates that Google and Apple were due to renew their agreement in early 2015 - so maybe this has not been resolved resulting in Google being "shut out" in the current IOS. I recall a similar incident when Microsoft removed Java from its early Windows XP versions due to a licensing wrangle - they didn't tell anybody about the omission when they released XP and left a lot of consumers wondering why a lot of web pages on the internet wouldn't load using the new XP unless they either purchased Java or waited until Microsoft was again able to provide an update after the licensing issue with Java had been resolved.

I hope this helps.

Having the same issue On my wife's iPad mini generation 2 can access http://www. goole.com but not https://www.google.com. My wife noticed the problem this morning on iOS 9.0. I noticed 9.1 was available so I downloaded it hoping it would fix the issue, but it didn't. I then cleared all website data and settings also no luck. Lastly, reset the iPad as a last resort also no luck. It's funny that Apple charges hundred of dollars then provides next to no support after a short period of time. I've since switched to android a long time ago. I wish people would wake up to this sham of a company and give them a piece of their own medicine; stop supporting them.
