My iPhone stops playing music when taking photos?!

I Have just realised I have this same issue too! This is one of my major workflows I walk, listen to music and take photos! It's a major deal breaker for me! even my 4S on iOS 9 doesn't have this issue which was what I've been using up till this upgrade to the 6S. I have 14 days to get a refund and if it's not going to be fixed I am seriously thinking of changing phones. This seems like it must be a trade off for the new 12MP camera but thats a bad call if so. I'd prefer if they could just limit it for say live photos which may be understandable. I love the Live Photos but come on Apple - normal photos and no music?

Does anyone know if the iPhone 6 has this issue?

LIve photos is the centre circle icon in camera app. It's takes video before and after the picture. You can then push on the picture and see it like a short video. It's very cool. Info here: http://www.macrumors.com/2015/09/25/live-photos-iphone-6s-video/

You can't disable the Live Photos but you can switch it off at the top when camera is opened (round icon in the middle) and it won't record any video. Well I guess this is a bug then. Sounds like they have an idea on how they want this to work (not interrupting a player when using the camera app without the "Live" function).

Cant believe they suggest to restore the phone as it is loads of work setting up the phone again.

If anyone does restore the phone and have got this to work, please share with the rest of us.

As many as possible... please log this as a bug and hopefully it will be gone in the next coming patches and updates.

Yeah, it's a bit of a deal breaker! Went to the Apple Store and we figured out it's the new phone, iPhones 6S. Something about the Live Photo feature that is causing the bug. Doesn't matter if Live Photos is disabled or not, camera app will turn audio off. Had to download third party app, VSCOcam to get around the issue. SnapChat works as well!

Spent 30 minutes with Apple chat support. It's a design feature due to LIVE Photos mode on iPhone 6s. This has alway happened in Video mode only. I files a complaint at the feedback site. http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Its clear that this is a general issue with the iPhone 6s. and the reply from Apple its just ridiculous. The first reply here saying that they were "working on the issue" is from OCTOBER 2015 and until now we got NOTHING. If I had read about this before I would not have changed my phone for the last version in December.

I've just been on line with 2 representatives as well and they really need our feedback on http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html (Choose “enhancement request” for feedback type) so their teams can see how much this affect us. Please spread the word. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

I had this same issue with iPhone 6s running iOS 9.0.2, and I fixed it!

I figured it might be Live Photo, so I did this

• Turned off Live Photo (by opening the camera and touching the yellow dot at the top, turning it white)
• RESTARTED the phone (by holding down the side right button and home button until screen black, let go, white apple comes up/phone restarts)

Now it works fine - can take photo while on phone, and opening camera while listening to podcast did not stop podcast playback. Hoping it continues to work.

It didn't work until after restarting the phone - just turning off Live Photo wasn't enough.

Same thing when trying to take picture while listening to podcasts. As soon as camera app opens the podcasts stops.

okay interesting update, when I was testing I was using Bluetooth headphones, when playing music out of iPhone speaker it will usually studder when the camera app launches but will allow music to play while taking photos.

I have the same issue with my 6S model with iOS 9.0.1. The camera app did not mute/stop the music on my 5S model with the new iOS 9.0.1. And I agree with most of you. This is a deal breaker for me too.

This most be a software (app) problem rather than hardware. I suspect the camera app made for the 6S model that is to blame and that is causing the music to stop. I had another app on my 5S model that did exactly the same thing. This was after an app update rather then a iOS update.

I think you are spot on. I remember when using the camera app on the 5S and switching to film video... the music stopped.

Now when the new 6S have the (according to me) redicilous "Live" functions when taking pictures (takes a short video when taking a picture) the camera app is always a kind of video camera function and therefore behaves similar to the video camera and stops all the musik and podcast players.

We can choose to switch off... or not to use the "Live" function and it won't take the video. However it doesn't let the musik or podcast to play on. I will suggest Apple to change this so when the "Live" function is switch off, it won't have an impact on any music or podcast player.

I am experiencing this as well. Until there is a fix, I do have a solution based on an earlier post.

I downloaded a different camera app (VscoCam) and this resolved the issue since the problem is with the camera app and not the hardware as someone mentioned.

Basically if you use another app to take your photos, it will not pause your music. There are many options, but I chose VscoCam because it's free. You can elect to have all the photos stored in your camera roll, and also go straight to the camera when the app is opened if you don't want to fuss over all the other features. I, for one, didnt want to sign up for the membership since it's only a temporary solution for me. I, therefore, skipped the registration prompts.
