My iPhone stops playing music when taking photos?!

HI there...

My iPhone 6S seems to stop playing music both from iTunes or Spotify when I open the camera to take a photograph. I assumed there would be some obvious way to allow it to continue playing. It's a bit annoying to be honest! I just want to continue listening to my music whilst taking photogrsphs...

I can't find anything on the web... Or on here... Can't find anything on the phone... It didn't happen with my iPhone 5...

If anybody knows anything or has any idea if this is actually a design feature or just annoying I'd appreciate any advice!

Cheers! 🙂

I am experiencing this as well. Until there is a fix, I do have a solution based on an earlier post.

I downloaded a different camera app (VscoCam) and this resolved the issue since the problem is with the camera app and not the hardware as someone mentioned.

Basically if you use another app to take your photos, it will not pause your music. There are many options, but I chose VscoCam because it's free. You can elect to have all the photos stored in your camera roll, and also go straight to the camera when the app is opened if you don't want to fuss over all the other features. I, for one, didnt want to sign up for the membership since it's only a temporary solution for me. I, therefore, skipped the registration prompts.

I hope this helps 🙂

Hello! Just notice the issue this morning with my iPhone6S!

Was on the phone with two Apple representatives and they came to the conclusion that this is a new "feature", due to Live Photo. It happens whether Live Photo is enabled or disabled. Believe I will be returning the phone, as I do not see the reason of paying $800+ for a device that cannot do two basic things at once!

Cheers!

Hi! Just returned from the Apple Store and after some deductions, it seems to be the iPhone 6S that does this. iPhone 6 works fine and as expected. It is not the software either, it is the phone. Representatives kept telling me it's always been that way, until we tested previous models.

I have download VSCOcam, suggested by someone on this feed. That app and Snapchat let's you take photo while your music is on BUT I am not okay paying so much for a phone that cannot do two basic function at once. I want to use my camera without the "middle man".

Also thinking of returning and working with my iPhone 5, till I can get something that functions properly for the price I am paying.

Yeah, it's a bit of a deal breaker! Went to the Apple Store and we figured out it's the new phone, iPhones 6S. Something about the Live Photo feature that is causing the bug. Doesn't matter if Live Photos is disabled or not, camera app will turn audio off. Had to download third party app, VSCOcam to get around the issue. SnapChat works as well!

Hopefully more people will make them aware of the issue, so it come get fixed in the next iOS update. http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I'm sorry you feel the need to be so rude to complete strangers but this is a function that has always existed. Many people are not comfortable paying for so much processing power and not being able to do two basic functions at once. Especially since it is something that was possible before. Personally, I am an artist and when I am working, I like to listen to my music. When I am at a certain stage of my work, I document that stage before proceeding. To answer your rudely posed question. It's annoying having to stop one function to use another basic functions. So hopefully that answers your question and hopefully you can find a way to be a be kinder to strangers.

HI all I said I'd update you I had phone call with apple support and they were no help as I expected. Soon went to a Genius Bar appt and the 9.02 update has just come out so we fix that together and no fix to the problem. he wanted me to restore the phone but I said can't you test on a 6s so he pulled his phone out and confirmed its a problem on his phone. he spoke to other technicians and they believe it's a bug as it evens tips sound on square photos In camera which disables the live photo option completely. He submits bugs the same way we do which was surprising so I recommend submitting it via Apple feedback. Personally I have a suspicion they gave disabled This for a reason to do with the higher camera resolution. I hope not. I'm really thinking about getting a refund of this doesn't work as its so annoying. If it auto played after taking photos it would help but still my old 4S on iOS 9 worked fine!!

not happy Apple!

Found that if you are sending a text and choose the camera option it does not interrupt music playing. still interrupts from the camera app. snapchat also does not interrupt music when taking a photo so it seems to be an issue with the native camera app itself only.

My hunch is the Livephoto option is the root of the cause as the text app photo option doesn't provide the live view option to choose from.

Great, thank you, that is really good information. Did not think to test the camera function in messaging! Looks like you would be correct, it is definitely a flaw caused by the Live Photo featured. Which is why it only affects iPhone 6S and not previous models. Seeing that the camera functions in messaging properly, proves it; it's Live Photo. We made have lost basic functionality to a new one. A new one I could do without!

Thanks for the update! Yeah, the customer service reps have no clue what is going on! If you look at the views of this page there are currently over 1100! There are others frustrated with this issue and searching for a solution. There also threads on Reddit discussing this issue, so hopefully Apple is getting the message. To be honest, I am not hopeful, because I am unsure whether Apple even sees it as a problem. The new beta came out this week; iOS 9.1 public beta 3, and the issue still exists. So the question is, will they solve it when the new iOS is released? Do they even see it as a problem? I am with you and debating whether or not to get a refund. Because it seems like a simple programming fix but it doesn't seem like Apple even thinks it's broken! Live Photo is an interesting feature but sadly it seems to have degraded the product a bit.
