My iPhone stops playing music when taking photos?!

HI there...

My iPhone 6S seems to stop playing music both from iTunes or Spotify when I open the camera to take a photograph. I assumed there would be some obvious way to allow it to continue playing. It's a bit annoying to be honest! I just want to continue listening to my music whilst taking photogrsphs...

I can't find anything on the web... Or on here... Can't find anything on the phone... It didn't happen with my iPhone 5...

If anybody knows anything or has any idea if this is actually a design feature or just annoying I'd appreciate any advice!

Cheers! 🙂

I have the same issue. This needs to be fixed.

I'm fuming because of this bug or rather "feature" Apple implemented. What a ridiculous oversight that you can't even take a still photo with music playing. Every single time I turn on the camera app my music/radio/podcast stops and it DOESN'T play itself again. They pushed out a poorly executed, half-baked product and charged us a premium price. This is not an Apple quality product and if they don't fix this with the next patch I'm returning this POS and going back to my old phone.

"This is probably the dumbest complaint I've ever seen. Who is sitting around listening to music and taking photos at the same time? Jesus Christ, you people..."

Every time I see a ******** user like this it makes me want to cringe. Who says you have to be "sitting around" just to listen to music. Can't I be walking, running, jogging, commuting while listening to music?

Dont bother feeding the trolls in my opinion it's better to focus on productive uses of time :-)

Well latest news for me is my phone is now completely dead. I mean completely gone. ill need to call apple tomorrow. I'm probably just going to get a refund I think as this problem and the bug is starting to become a joke considering how expensive apple charges. i saw the Microsoft presentation tonight and the Lumia or nexus 5x may be what I'll get instead.

Excellent work! Fantastic... Couldn't believe it was meant to happen... Especially with Apple pretty much building the iPhone from a portable music player!!! Looking forward to doing something as ******** as taking a photo at the same time as listening to music!!! ;-) never understand the mentality of keyboard warriors making comments whilst having no interest in the thread! There must be something better to do surely!!!

Yeah, to be honest I was questioning making the switch. From the past two product outputs, it looks like they are slipping. My coworkers have been switching over to Microsoft products and laugh that I am still Apple loyal. Now with these bugs, I feel like the office dope. It's not Apple quality at all and that's what I paid for, an Apple quality product.

Just wanted to add that I've noticed this happening a lot. I like to walk around a lot while listening to music and every once in a while I see something i want to take a picture of, so it's quite annoying. This also happens when you try to take pictures using Instagram. Someone here posted that they might be fixing this in a future update...let's hope this happens soon.

I had this same issue with iPhone 6s running iOS 9.0.2, and I fixed it!

I figured it might be Live Photo, so I did this

  • Turned off Live Photo (by opening the camera and touching the yellow dot at the top, turning it white)
  • RESTARTED the phone (by holding down the side right button and home button until screen black, let go, white apple comes up/phone restarts)

Now it works fine - can take photo while on phone, and opening camera while listening to podcast did not stop podcast playback. Hoping it continues to work.

It didn't work until after restarting the phone - just turning off Live Photo wasn't enough.

I just came across this issue: very annoying, especially because I always use the camera to take pictures while listening to music on headphones. So this is a major issue for me and I hope Apple will come with a bug fix (because IMO this is a bug) with the next iOS update. I don't want to consider that this is going to remain like this.

Keeping fingers crossed...
