no mail sounds after installing El Capitan

All other sounds and mail sounds work except new message sound.

Waiting for a fix from apple.

Checked my mail this afternoon and on receiving an update regarding this thread after a couple of seconds saw the Banner appear - still no sound but Banner back. Not sure why, I was clicking around on the tick boxes under Mail Behaviour, likewise in the Notification Centre last night but can't see that doing anything, odd.

Same for me. I don't know why Apple released an OS without fully testing it. They had enough time to check bugs from beta testers.!!!!

Apparently many of us are in the same boat. What is not apparent is when we can expect a resolution. I understand that bugs happen, and also understand that they need to be addressed ASAP.

Yes. I am continuing to have the same problem on both my new iMac and my MacBook Air, which is about 2 years old. I depend on the mail receipt sound constantly in the course of my work. I am looking forward to a fix from Apple.

I now find that the Banners/Alerts do work, but only on booting or waking my MacBook. When e-mails arrive whist I'm working there is neither sound or visual alert. All very strange!

Create a rule to play a sound for your accounts. This should help until it's fixed.

Thanks for the suggestion however creating a rule as you propose also does not solve the problem. As was noted in an earlier posting in this thread, it appears that Apple already has acknowledged that this is a glitch with El Capitan and that it will require a fix. I suggest that the fix should not be delayed until some future update but expedited now. Thanks again for your suggestion.

Thanks for your suggestion, but just tried what you outlined, and I'm afraid it didn't work. Will just have to wait for update!

Same story here... No notification sounds & no banners. Also found that one or two of my custom mp3 sounds will not play even if just selected in mail preferences. Waiting for Apple to give us the fix.

I'll add myself to the list of users annoyed with this issue. I have created a rule for now to band-aid the problem but I miss the days of the really flawless Apple software

@RickiKing and others. I am afraid you were right. My "fix" only worked for some time for me, too. First it worked fine, then the banner, disappeared, then the new mail sound and finally also the send mail sound which made it last. Such an erratic error behavior is quite a surprise to me to see from Apple. Usually it works or it doesn't. Sorry for my misleading post earlier.

I have the same problem with Mail sounds, and in addition, if I go to system preferences | sound, I cannot hear any Finder system sounds at all. If I try to adjust the volume or change the system beep there is not sound. Other apps such as Skype have sounds working fine. It is an OS issue. I have a Macbook Air (13inch mid 2013).

Try this THEN see if the rule works.

In Mail > Preferences > General, Select None from the popup for check new messages. You might need to quit and reopen Mail. This should allow Mail to play other sounds to notify you.
