no mail sounds after installing El Capitan

I just installed El Capitan and the first thing that I have noticed is that the normal sounds that apple mail puts out do not come out of the speakers. iTunes works fine but not then mail sounds. Any help would be appreciated

If Mail sounds still fail to work after upgrading to OS X 10.11.1, I would restart and test again.

Further troubleshooting steps:

1) Download the full OS X 10.11 El Capitan installer under Purchases. You will get a warning that it's already installed, but you can select continue and it will download the full installer.

2) Test in a new User to eliminate issues in your current User.

CREATE A NEW USER

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Users & Groups.

Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching.

You can skip the Apple ID login unless you want to test an iCloud email account.

Open Mail in the Dock and add your account. If you have multiple accounts, select the one that has the least amount of email for testing.

Do you still see the issue?

If no, then the problem is in your User's folder.

Okay, I tred another reboot, but no luck with getting the audio alerts back. I've already spent over half an hour DLing, installing and updating my mailbnoxes, and it was a complete waste of my time. I am disinclined to go back and waist any more DLing El Cap all over again on the off chance that it will correct the problem. I don't wish to appear uncooperative, but, I'm quite tired of jumping through hoops with nothing to show for the effort. Apple can fix this, the question is if they will and when they will do it.

I'm not computer illiterate but I'm not a computer wizard either, just your average user. I do not want or need to be making adjustments to an application as basic as one for email that comes directly from the company that made my computer and the operating system it uses. Apple is great and I would normally have no problem with El Capitan, but I have a hard time understanding how something in the Mail.app got broken with this latest OS. E-mail nowadays is essential, it's like the date/time feature, the dock, the trash, etc. Imagine updating your OS to the latest one only to find out your clock all of a sudden could not update the time to your time zone properly, or the dock icons were too big and despite changing their size in System Preferences they still were too big, or that every time you moved something to the trash you had to enter your Apple ID. Well, for me, the only email sounds that work are when there are new messages (POP and IMAP) and when I send one. However, I do not get a notification when I check my email and there aren't any messages, which for me is VERY important. This was no problem with OS X Mavericks so obviously the issue was created/caused by OS El Capitan (and the multiple people reporting similar issues confirms this). I guess it is time to try other email applications like AirMail, MailBox (the desktop version is only Beta), Inky (also Beta), etc. I will have to pay extra in order to be able to use my email like I did before El Capitan, which is very, very sad. I guess Apple wants us to become more and more like Microsoft users and El Capitan is the first OS designed to do that, an OS that has issues that won't be fixed. 😟 😮

This is very very disappointing. I agree that something like Mail is essential and for it to take so long and still not be working as it should is extremely problematic and Apple should be making this fix a priority. I had high hopes after the update to OS X 10.11.1 - Mail seemed to be upgrading and took the longest time to re-open because of re-building mailboxes etc. But then I still have no incoming mail sounds, and no sound when I manually check mail and there is none. I do get sound on outgoing mail (as I always have since installing el capitan).

VERY Disappointing... especially since it seems impossible to go back to Yosemite if you don't have the installer downloaded already

This is all very well, but when you have paid for a premium product you expect a great deal more. If my BMW vehicle fails within warranty, I don't expect an e-mail instructing me how to fix the engine! Fix this issue Apple, as we all pay way above what these products are worth! How difficult is it to fix a 'Bing' and an banner/alert when a pop e-mail arrives! Interestingly, this problem was known at the beta stage of El Capitan, yet was still released to the general population!

It would be helpful if Apple could provide a REVERT to YOSEMITE option in the app store until this bug is fixed.

A lot of people do not run Time Machine - one reason I don't is that when it was first implemented it was so buggy that I gave up on it... (an example of the consequences of leaving bugs in the release version of software!)

What I also find frustrating is that Apple seem to remain completely silent about this even though there are reports that they know about it - there seems to be nothing from Apple about it.
