DNS server would select a different server which either has better bandwidth, less load, or is not routed across an internet backbone border gateway that has limited capacity.

Just went from 2 days to 20 mins! Thanks. I don't know if its related, previously apple music downloads were taking hours as well, and are now back to minutes!

Went from 1 day 18 hours to 3 hours 42 minutes! Not as fast as others are saying they're getting, but a HUGE improvement nonetheless! Thanks!

yeehah. 2 days 5 hrs down to a few minutes. I understand if you are in Australia (like me) a key underwater cable has been damaged. Perhaps changing the DNS is giving us an alternate route?? Thanks so much for the advice. Pip pip

I'm in Australia also. I missed the news on the cable. Can't see it anywhere on news sites. Do you have a link out of interest?

Thank you so much for your help! I was trying to find a solution to this issue for a while. It first displayed the download time as 5 days and after I put in the DNS it went down to 2 hours.

I also found it hard to believe. I made the change and it went from 3 days to 1 hour and 30 minutes to download 5.5Gb. I am with Optus Cable if that helps anyone.

Do you just leave those settings?

Many thanks for this suggestion! I went from 3 - 4 days down to 1 hour estimate.

It did too for me, not just el capitan, but any other app from app store.

Any clue why?

Will this work with iCloud iOS backups?
