How well does iWeb work with El Capitan?

I've continued to use this old software with no significant problems with Yosemite, but plan on moving my website to another app fairly soon (probably EverWeb). However, I don't want to upgrade to El Capitan before I make this move if the upgrade significantly breaks iWeb.

Anyone have any experience with iWeb on OS X 10.11?

Thanks,

Dave

I'm finally upgrading to El Capitan via purchasing a new iMac. I've been working with iWeb since i came with my G5 back in 2002. Later I moved my site over to my 2006 iMac and have had it there since. My last update was a few months ago. I have my site hosted by Host Excellence and I haven't had an issue with them. So after reading some replies by everyone here it has abundantly been clear to me that I need to find an exit strategy and it's EverWeb. I checked out the site and program through their videos and man it looks like an easy learning curve plus all these new things I can do. I have less than 50 pages in my web site, but I think I can "re-create" some pages again, but frankly I think it will be more fun just to do new ones. I've been waiting for this program for years and I've heard and reviewed others, but didn't feel inclined to jump ship until now...my iMac is no longer working safely as it crashes all the time. It's like watching you dog slowly get worse. I think I'll feel the same with iWeb. So many memories. I still love that way of making a website. Kind of old fashioned, but also just intuitive and simple. With EverWeb it also looks to be easy more or less to make mobile versions. One of many other features I'm excited to learn. Anyways. I just wanted to share my story. I may decided to try if iWeb works with El Capitan, but I don't think I care that much. I am pretty confident with my transition to Everweb will be successful.

P.S. If I keep the iMac and would feel nostalgic one day I may turn it on and look at the website in iWeb. Wow! I can't believe how sentimental a simple program can make someone. It's too bad iWeb wasn't continued or turned over to another company. So long old friend.

I created my iweb sides on iMac since 2007, and it worked fine. An easy and excellent tool.

Since i upgraded to El capitan and done some things on my site, all the links dissapeared. And this button came upUser uploaded file

I phoned Swedish Apple support and they help me now to find what is wrong. They charge me

I think 30€ per hour i think, they said to fix this.

Now im waiting for an answer.

Hi xirxes. I am a iWeb love addicted, and I love to see there websites made with iWeb. Can you share your website?
By the way, I also updated OS to El Capitan and I had to go back to OS X Yosemite to work well when uploading websites trough iweb. I had the same problem when uploading, it didn't uploaded all correctly. Since I went back to OS X Yosemite, iWeb back to work like a charm.

Scroll back through the discussion history to my message to JyMy of January 13. Although Corier is absolutely correct that iWeb still works perfectly in Yosemite and picked up the current "bug" in El Capitan, that may not be a practical solution for most people. The problem that occurs in El Capitan is that Shapes, once they are linked, will seem to disappear when published. In reality they're still there as you can prove by mousing over the shape.

The easiest solution is to generate the Shape from a different source - I recommend Pages. Format the background color in Pages, but don't select the Border. Border and Shadows can be added and managed in iWeb. If you want a text box on top of your shape just make sure the text box is set to no background. Once you have imported one shape from Pages you can duplicate it endlessly and even re-size it as long as you use the same color.

I have a question similar to this. I myself have NEVER used iWeb. I am using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014). When I do a traceroute on myself I find I am connected to 72531.

Corier,

You might think this is a great website, but it was NOT created using iWeb - you have been misled here in that regard. I thought it looked nice and thought that there is no way that you could create a site quite like that using iWeb, so I checked the source code of the website and it has actually been created in WordPress.

Nice site, but created in WordPress and not iWeb.

Ethmoid,

Yes You are correct, but as far I remember the previous version was really made at iWeb - this is a new updated version.
Yes, is not possible to make a responsive website with iWeb, but is possible to make a Mobile version of a Website with iWeb, reducing width and with a HTML SCRIPT to detect width screen.

When I use an object as a link, the object disappears on the web browser, although it is there if you hover the mouse pointer.

I managed to solve this using a workaround:

1. Duplicate the object

2. Remove the link on one of the duplicates and send this one to the back

3. Stack and align both objects (with the one with the link activated on the top). Both objects are similar. The object without link on the back, the object with the link on the front.

4. Publish and if necessary refresh the browser.
