El Capitan - This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with "name@email.com" - is occurring frequently with my new installation of the OS

I upgraded my Mac Book Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) to OS X El Capitan (Version 10.11) yesterday, and now I'm getting frequent iCloud error messages:

This Mac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with "myusername@gmail.com" Open iCloud preferences to fix this problem.

I was having this problem after "upgrading" to El Capitan (along with many other problems) and I found a possible solution in an old discussion about the same problem when upgrading to Mavericks. I tried it and it seems to work:

Go to Mail -> Preferences, then click on 'Accounts' and then the 'Advanced' tab.

Near the bottom, its says 'Authentication' and next to this there are choices. It normally says "Apple Token".

I changed this to "Password" and closed it. Now everything seems to be working fine. The strange thing is that when

I looked at this setting again, it had been changed back to 'Apple Token'. Hmmmm

Thanks for the council but do not work, is not my problem, the message that appear to me and this: The session of the musical bookcase has expired. To connect, you approach with the ID Apple and the Password.

Il messaggio è in italiano: La sessione della libreria musicale è scaduta. Per riconnetterti, accedi con l’ID Apple e la Password.

GRAZIE

I had the same problem on my Mac. I reset my keychain password (used the same one) and the problem seems to be resolved for now. Here's a link on reseting the password. Hi All,

I'm having the same issue. MBP 15" Retina 2013.

Clean installation of 10.11.2, when I opened System Preferences -> iCloud I got the same error message. It accepted my password, however after that every 15 sec or so an error message from CloudKeyChainProxy appears in system logs. It trys to "sync all peers" and fails becuase "domain not found". Seems that my keychain is not synchronized with other devices as a result.

Apple please fix this!

I had this issue after updating my MAC Book Pro, now it has been solved by login to my ICloud, then changing the Keychain "Security Code" which consists of 4 digits. the new Security Code consists of 6 digits, and this is the same in iPhone after updating to IOS9.

try to change your Security Code in Keychain and this may be the solution to your problem.

GoodLuck.

I ran into this problem as well, and did manage to fix it using hints from other people here.

It looks to me like after the upgrade, OSX can no longer verify the validity of the iCloud TLS certificate. And as a result, fails to connect. It tries to fix the problem by installing a new root certificate (no idea why Apple doesn't bundle this with the OSX upgrade!)

The bug is that, instead of prompting you for the keychain access necessary to install the root certificate, it's erroneously prompts for your icloud password again and then fails to validate the iCloud certificate and connect.

What I did -

  1. Open your keychain.
  2. Click on system roots in the left sidebar
  3. Click on the lock in the upper right-hand corner
  4. Enter the password you use to log into your system
  5. Open system preferences => iCloud
  6. Click the prompt to enter your password at the top of the window.

That fixed it for me.

HI! I have the same problem, it happened after restoring a backup on my iPhone 6S Plus. Next I found this message, I am trying to sing out and sign in, trying to delete some files. Actually I am trying to restore whole system, and after I am trying to sign in my freshly installed OS X El Captain in my MacBook Pro Retina 15" 2015 Late, I am woundert, what is going on to Apple , this issue 99% from Apple iCloud side, not from ouers side. No Steve No quality. I am a pro like user, starting from 2006, I have some programming skills on objective c, so it means that I am not an sttuped person how do not recognize how to use icloud. All my devices are working good, but Mac's problem with iCloud is annoying, and additionalt to this probmel, Safari won't sync all bookmarks, after restore OS X, just about 10% of all them, which I have on other associated with this Apple ID. 😟((

I had the same problem. Turns out there was a pending request to another device for approval of my keychain - which I could not longer approve. I logged out, restarted, quickly unchecked keychain on my icloud preferences. This seems to of fixed it. I then recheck the keychain and approved from another device.

Good luck.

Thank you for the suggestion! I had tried signing out and then back in from the <iCloud> option in Systems Preferences to no avail. However, when I did the same through <Internet Accounts> it solved the problem.

It might be worth mentioning that this deleted all of the contacts, calendar, reminders, etc. information on my computer before replacing it. I was comfortable trying this since I had everything backed up previously. As always, make sure you have a backup of your information before deleting....just in case.
