El capitan freeze during install

My 2013 MacBook pro has frozen during the install.

1. I downloaded from the app store and began the install process.

2. The computer rebooted for the next step of the install process

3. The white install bar is frozen at 90% Fans are running at top speed.

What should I do?

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), iPhone 5s, MacBook Pro

You can try stopping the MBP with the power button. Once it is stop for 20 seconds or so power it back up again and see if that helps.

Thanks very much for this post Denbee. I was about to give up and restore from my Yosemite Time Machine back up.

This is the only suggested solution that worked for me. But as I couldn't log in with safe mode I had to do this in single user mode but it worked just as well.

I just wish I'd found this a couple of weeks ago when my daughter was updating her MBP 17". I had to do a back up of all her data in single user mode and do a fresh install of El Cap.
