after upgrading to os X10.10 quicktime plugin is unavailable

Having upgraded to El Capitan the quicktime plugin is unavailable in safari or firefox, seems crazy to have to downgrade because of a lack of this plugin, can 't apple check their own software actually works together?

So I guess there are really two issues: websites that use out of date formats for videos, and the desire on the part of Apple, Google and perhaps some others to eliminate the use of QT entirely.

How you interpret the issues probably depends on how you view the HTML5/browser development timeline. HTML5 support was initially introduced in Chrome v4.0, I.E. v9.0, Firefox v3.5, Safari v4.0 and Opera v10.5 browsers. Had website programmers started to conditionally program their web pages for both plugin and HTML5 support back then, they probably would have also adopted the use of MP4 videos (or some combination of MP4, WebM, and/or Ogg) for <video> tag use and as a result, probably very few users would have noticed that the QT browser plugin had been disabled under El Capitan. By delaying the recoding of web sites, programmers had no incentive to convert their video content to meet requirements for <video> tag use and, as a result many users were shocked by the sudden loss of QT plugin support which, hopefully will now force programmers to accommodate both plugin and HTML5 coding during the current "transition" period from one to the other.

hello all

I use click to plugin, which has the functionality to open the html5 video on the webpage in the quicktime player outside of safari.

since el capitan this functionality is broken, since it needs the quicktime plugin.plugin to work.

I tried the fix you guys suggested, namely taking the plugin out of the 'disabled' folder and placing them back in 'internet plugins'.

But for the functionality to work, I have to set in the safari settings that it can work in unsafe mode. The problem I now have is that the 'quicktime plugin' doesn't show up in the list in the safari settings > web plugins.

Any tips or ideas to fix this...?

Hello guys

I use the click to plugin- safari extension, which I love. It gives me the functionality to view a html5 video in the Quicktime player.

I use this functionality a lot. I am using El Capitan now, which disabled the quicktime webplugin. I normally need to select the quicktime webplugin in the safari webplugin settings to run in unsafe mode for the functionality to work. I tried the fix mentioned, moving the plugin back into internet plugins, but it still doesn't register in the settings list with plugins. Could some one help me out...?
