Since upgrading to El Capitan, Microsoft Outlook will not remember it's window size after I close and reopen, or quit and restart the program.
This problem did not occur with any previous operating systems.

Another trick I found:
If you inadvertently close the Outlook window, go to the dock and quit using the Outlook application icon. If you then open Outlook using the dock icon, the window opens to your specified size.

But, 2 days on, having downloaded 16.6.4 Outlook is holding its as-set window sizes perfectly......
Well, when I upgraded, Calendar stayed the same size... then it didn't. It reverted back to its horrible problems. As well, Preview now does not work on my iMac. Very strange. It's always something. Getting very tired of Apple lately.
.... 36 hours later my Outlook is still holding its as-set window-size perfectly on re-opening - after a nightmare 6 months.

Have you installed 14.6.4 Jonathan? That seems to be what has fixed it [so far! - 3 days] for me.
A week after installing 14.6.4, my [infuriating] Outlook window-sizing problems remain 'cured'.
So my fingers remain crossed.

Unfortunately, after updating to 14.6.4 back on May 17th, the problem still persists on my computers.
Just to be sure... I re-downloaded and re-installed the Outlook 2011 update 14.6.4.
Within less than an hour the window size problem returned to both Outlook and Apple Calendar.
I will continue to minimize Outlook and will keep the Calendar sidebar hidden to work-around these issues.
My opinion on this problem remains that Apple needs to fix this, not Microsoft. Apple's own Calendar application is affected.
The problem started with the introduction of OS X El Capitan.
Seems pretty obvious to me.
I am extremely disappointed to say, after two days of Outlook behaving fine. It is now rebroken.
All hopes for a better future have been shattered. 😢

Regarding the outlook resize problem, if you go to applications > Outlook > right click on icon > scroll down to get info > then select the (prevent app nap) box
this cured the problem for me.
I just followed your suggestion "Got Me". Hope it works. I'll report back here in a day or two.
Well, I didn't have to wait a day or two. Unfortunately, the problem persists.
Back to minimizing the Outlook window for me.
that's unfortunate. this works for me, never needed to resize outlook after setting prevent nap.
